Flint Mark aka Sandman, opens up Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 as the colossal, building-sized opening boss. What’s more, he quickly becomes the game’s first collectible, as, during the after-fight cleanup, Miles happens upon an orange crystal.

A short fight with the same sand minions from the earlier boss fight, and you’ll be breaking open the crystal. Flint Marko’s voice emanates from the crystal – and each subsequent one -, detailing his recent memories and the tale of how he came out of villainous retirement and why. It’s not quite as open-and-closed as you’d think.

If you’re struggling to find the last few, or just want to know the locations of Marko’s Memories before you collect any, we have you covered. Below is a comprehensive guide of all fourteen, where they are, how to get them, and what is said.

Locations of Marko’s Memories – District by District

First one is during the opening app mission for Miles. Impossible to miss, part of the story.

Locations of Marko's Memories

Williamsburg

Located in the upper left section of Williamsburg by the river. On top of a building with a large chimney. Make use of your powers and the height of the roof to your advantage. Why fight them when you can catapult them into oblivion?

Little Odessa

The top left of the district, on the roof, and is quite clearly seen between two huge smoking chimneys. Same as the above, use the height of the building and throw them off the sides to save yourself time and trouble.

Central Park

Right at the bottom of Central Park near a small lake, you’ll see the familiar sand cloud emanating from the trees. Head to it and you’ll have to fit the sand minions. Simple to dispatch, especially if you use the lake to your advantage.

Greenwich

On the left of the district on street level, you’ll find a basketball court without any basketball being played. Sand everywhere of course. Remove the local sandy residents and grab another of Marko’s Memories.

Chinatown

On the roof of a smaller building, surrounded by water towers. Unfortunately, these aren’t able to be used in your fight against the sand minions, but with the routine you’ll no doubt be in by now, you can throw them off the roof.

The second of Marko’s Memories lies in the bottom left side of the district, down an alleyway opposite a shop called Solid Gold. It’s hard to miss the sand billowing out. There are some water pipes here which will make quick work of your enemies, so make use of them.

Midtown

At the top of a high-rise near the middle of the district. Again, an unmissable cloud of sand will highlight where you need to go. Kill the sand minions and break open the sand crystal for the next part of Marko’s story.

Once you've collected the first thirteen, the fourteenth will appear on the map on the Western side of Downtown Brooklyn.  No sand minions this time, but you'll be transported into Marko's mind, arguably a worse place. A few web-zips and a tortured sounding Flint Marko later, and you'll be presented with a gigantic crystal. Throw some objects at it whilst attempting to fight off the sand minions and eventually you'll be able to access and break the crystal within, hearing the last memory from Marko to his daughter. You'll then be sent on your way to the other end of the map to Queens, where his daughter Keemia is, to give her the crystals, as a present from her father.

Downtown Brooklyn

Middle of the district near on street level. Not far from both a Hunter’s Blind and the ‘Find Grandpa’ FNSM Request.

Usual rules apply. Kill/subdue to sand minions and break the crystal to uncover another part of Flint Marko’s Story.

Financial District

Right at the top in the middle of the Financial District, you’ll see a cloud of sand coming from an alleyway. Head down the alleyway and kill the sand minions – make use of the two water spouts for an easy time – and then collect the Memory in the corner.

At the bottom on the Eastern coast of the district is another of Marko’s Memories. Again, on a rooftop overlooking the river. A quick fight with the minions and you’ll have another one chalked off the list.

Right at the bottom is where you’ll find your last of the district, in the midst of a beach-side park.

Not that the fights against the sand minions are particularly hard, but for an easy time stand in the middle of the fountain and web-yank them into the water. Easy peasy.

Marko’s Memories Tell a Story

As you work your way around the locations of Marko’s Memories and collect them in their entirety, you’ll be treated to a story, made up of his own thoughts, as to how he ended up destroying the city and subsequently The Raft.

Each crystal contains a short memory from Marko to his daughter, Keemia. It’s a short story, but it’s one that makes a lot of sense when you collect the last crystal. Ultimately, he’s a father who loves and wishes to protect his daughter.

  1. She’s Gone… – “One minute I was with you… and the next, you were gone.”
  2. Prying Eyes – “Someone’s watching us Keemia, but I don’t want you to worry. That’s my job.”
  3. Being Followed – “Maybe I’m being paranoid, but everywhere I go I see them too. Work. The corner store. In the park. They’re tracking us.”
  4. No One Believes Me – “So I tell the cops someone’s out to get us… but they don’t listen to me. No one ever does. Time to take matters into my own hands.”
  5. Looking For Answers – “It’s my turn to follow them. Figure out who they are. I end up at this abandoned school in Harlem. And I’m already beginning to regret this.”
  6. A Trap – “I find ’em and they’re waiting for me… with all sorts of weapons. What the hell have I walked into?”
  7. Face to Face – “They’re circling me, mija. Wishing I just stayed at home with you, Keemia. Helped you with your homework and made you the one meal that I know how to cool. But it’s too late now.”
  8. The Beast Inside – “I ask ’em what they want and all they say is… the beast inside me. But that ain’t been me for a long time. Just like I promised you.”
  9. A Familiar Feeling – “I tell them to leave us alone. But they don’t care. They shoot me with a net. Try to hold me down. And I was sand before I knew it. I’m so ashamed, but I had no choice. I gotta yet back to you.”
  10. Uninvited Guests – “I lose the creeps at the school and come home. Walk through the front door, but you’re not there. They are. What have they done to you Keemia?”
  11. Fade to Black – “I start yelling, losing my cool. If they did anything to you… I can feel the sand about to take over. And then they splash me with some chemical. Don’t know what it is, but trying my hardest to stay awake. I’m fading fast, until I see black.”
  12. Imprisoned – “I wake up in some kind of dungeon. Lots of empty cells around… You’re not here, but are you okay?”
  13. Broken Promise – “They say their boss is coming soon and that he wants to meet me. I’m not waiting around. Sorry to break our promise, Keemia. But I’ll tear this city apart to find you.”
  14. Together Again – “I tried to be the best dad for you, Keemia. I really did. All I can do is hope they didn’t get you and that you’re safe at your Mom’s. I love you so much, Mija. Well be together again one day, I know it.”

Once you’ve got all fourteen, you’ll know the story and locations of Marko’s Memories in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. Not only does it give another perspective on the opening of the game, but as Insomniac tends to do, it fleshes out one of the side characters incredibly well.
