One of the most beloved actors of all times, Matthew Perry tragically passed away in an apparent case of drowning at his Los Angeles residence. The famous actor was best known for his role of Chandler Bing in the hit television sitcom FRIENDS. However he has had numerous notable and memorable roles across the big and small screen.
One of his most memorable collaboration was with Zac Efron in the movie 17 Again. While we will never get their collaboration now, Perry had just revealed less than a year ago that he had approached the actor for a role. However, Efron had rejected the proposal for some unknown reasons.
Zac Efron Once Rejected Matthew Perry’s Request To Reunite
Zac Efron and Matthew Perry starred in the hit rom-com 17 Again, where the High School Musical star played the younger version of the FRIENDS star. Their collaboraton was well-liked and fans apprecaited the casting. Since then they have been wanting the two to work together again.
While sady their dream would now never come true, Perry had revealed less than a year ago that he had approached his former co-star for a collaboration. In an interview with SiriusXM, he revealed that he had been working on a rom-com script that he wanted to direct.
“I finished a screenplay that we’re out with to some people. Um, I wanna direct that. I have a small part in it. I wrote it for myself and then realized I’m 20 years too old to play this. So we’re trying to cast the leads now.”
He then added how he had approached Zac Efron for the role, but he rejected it due to reasons undisclosed.
“Well, it was Zac Efron, but he said no. So we gotta find somebody who says yes”
While it would not had been his first directing venture, it would had been his first time directing the feature film, which unfortunately would not be possible anymore.
17 Again Was Matthew Perry’s Last Movie
Matthew Perry has continued to dominate the TV screens thanks to his hit TV sitcom FRIENDS. Even now the show is one of the most watched shows of all times. The actor was 54 when he passed away on October 28, 2023.
While he had been active on small screen his last appearance on the big screen was with Efron in their movie 17 Again. The high-school fantasy movie had received lukewarm reviews from film critics, however, it was a hit among his fans and went on to gross nearly $140 million worldwide.
Now as he has passed away, his many roles continue to remind fans and audience about how wonderful of an actor he was and an even amazing human being who would be missed dearly by all who knew him.
