While he may have had the same traits in real life as well, he possessed the ability to charm someone of the opposite gender as well, something that no one else truly knew until he got into a relationship with Academy award-winner Julia Roberts.

In his memoir Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thingthe star touched upon his brief relationship with Roberts in 1996. He said that when he heard the news that the Pretty Woman star wanted to be part of an episode of FRIENDS alongside Chandler Bing, he wanted to show his gratitude and appreciation for her, which led him to send a bouquet of 36 roses and a heartfelt message that read:

“The only thing more exciting than the prospect of you doing the show is that I finally have an excuse to send you flowers,”

He also stated that after he made this gesture, both of them started faxing each other, which further broadened their conversation. Perry even admitted that he would purposefully avoid flirting with other women because of this, saying:

“I was so excited that some nights I would find myself out at some party sharing a flirtatious exchange with an attractive woman and cut the conversation short so I could race home and see if a new fax had arrived. Nine times out of 10, one had.”

This ended up becoming a bonding experience for Roberts as she later went on to make a guest appearance on the show during the second season, although, their relationship lasted only two months.
