Matthew Perry, who is renowned for his role as Chandler Bing in the popular show F.R.I.E.N.D.S. The character was immensely popular among fans of the show as he was socially awkward and his sarcastic one-liners often led to several hilarious moments. Perry was the heart of the show, as well as the comic soul. Sadly, the actor is no more between us, as he was found dead in his hot tub in his home in Los Angeles.
While Matthew Perry played a lovable character in the TV Series, he had a difficult time in his personal life, which he often discussed openly. He had been in relationships with some renowned faces of the industry such as Julia Roberts, Lizzy Caplan, Molly Hurwitz, and others. He could not settle down with any of them as he had a terrible fear, and he would often blame himself for his failed relationships.
Matthew Perry Blamed Himself For His Failed Love Life
Even though Matthew Perry dated some popular faces in the entertainment industry, he could not get himself to tie the knot even once. The closest he came to marriage was his engagement to Molly Hurwitz, whom he had dated for two years but later went separate ways, as things did not work out between them.
Before Hurwitz, the actor had dated Julia Roberts from 1995 to 1996, Yasmine Bleeth in 1996, Neve Campbell in 1998, Maeve Quinlan from 2002-2003, Lauren Graham in 2003, Rachel Dunn from 2003 to 2005, and Lizzy Caplan from 2006 to 2012. However, he could not settle with any of them as he had been fearful of relationships.
Matthew Perry talked more about his fear of relationships after the release of his memoir Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing. During an exclusive interview with People, he stated how his fear of being committed to someone in a relationship prevented him from tying the knot, and he would often find flaws that would make him hate his other half.
“That was me afraid. That is what I manifest, something that’s wrong with them. And then I break up with them. But there can’t be something wrong with everyone. I’m the common denominator. I left first because I thought they were going to annihilate me.”
Perry acknowledged that he “had a tremendous amount of fear” about love. However, he has overcome that fear as he has worked hard on it, he went on to share his thoughts that he has no interest in being with someone who is not scared by the things that scared him once.
“I’m going to learn as I go. The thing that’s changed about me is I have no interest in hanging out with somebody that I don’t know or somebody that I’m not that into. The next person I really take seriously is somebody that I’m going to be in love with and not be scared by the things that used to scare me.”
While the actor overcame his fear, he could not get himself to settle with someone, as he was not married before he left us at the early age of 54.
How did Matthew Perry Die?
