Eiichiro Oda’s masterpiece, One Piece, is known for its mysteries and conspiracies that leave fans questioning the incidents in the series and even create a level of excitement about what would happen next. These mysteries are usually unraveled in one way or the other and usually have an explanation that satisfies the fans. However, there is one incident that was so confusing for fans, that it has not been answered yet and even makes the fans wonder, whether Oda san had to use plot armor for this scene to save Luffy.
The scene in question takes place in the Dressrosa arc in One Piece when the puppet Doflamingo unravels and transforms into a gigantic string cage, barring anyone from leaving Dressrosa. Even though, it was a devil fruit ability, Fujitora, Luffy and Zoro could not cut through it even with Haki which left fans wondering. However, some explanations may not completely solve the mystery but somewhat answer the question.
Luffy and Zoro’s Haki weren’t at Their Peak During Dressrosa
In One Piece, Luffy and Zoro were probably the strongest characters during the fight against Doflamingo. When the birdcage ability of Doflamingo was introduced, many fans believed that Luffy and Zoro might be able to cut through the threads with their haki and save the people. However, both of them were incapable of doing so.
Although it is widely accepted that Haki in One Piece can be used to counter most of the devil fruit powers and can allow the user to get past the protection of the devil fruit powers, Luffy and Zoro during the Dressrosa arc were not up to their full strengths. As compared to Doflamingo who also possess every kind of haki, their haki strength might not be able to match that of Doflamingo which resulted in them not being able to destroy the bird cage.
However, Fujitora, one of the Admirals was also present there and he was not able to cut through the strings even with his Haki. And there might be a reason for that too which might point out why Fujitora did not stop Doflamingo’s birdcage.
Fujitora Was Not Fighting at His Top Level
While the birdcage power was trying to annihilate every single person within the cage, Admiral Fujitora was also present within the cage and he even tried to stop the cage with the help of Haki. However, Fujitora might not be fighting at his top level. There might be two reasons for it which were not explained in One Piece.
The first one is that Fujitora was against the Warlord system introduced by the world government from the start. He wanted to show the world, that the pirates were doing whatever they wanted under the guise of the warlord system. He wanted to bring out the truth about Doflamingo and for that, he needed to show the world his true intentions.
Another reason might be that he wanted Luffy to be the one to defeat Doflamingo and if he had stopped the birdcage, the navy might have gotten the credit for capturing him and this would have stopped the truth about the warlords from coming out. All these reasons are just speculations and it might just be possible that Oda san used plot armor to save Luffy and the other main characters of One Piece.
