Joss Whedon brought a plethora of new characters in Avengers: Age of Ultron, including Pietro (Quicksilver) and Wanda Maximoff (Scarlet Witch), along with the artificial intelligence J.A.R.V.I.S., who eventually embodied Vision. Even Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel could’ve appeared in Whedon’s film, but that plan didn’t work out.
Wanda fell perfectly into Whedon’s typical character type: an emotionally scarred young woman who is powerful at the same time. Whedon wanted to add more characters in the Avengers: Age of Ultron, so he proposed his idea to provide comic book fans with some extra special at the end of the film.

Brie Larson Almost Appeared In The First Avengers Film
Joss Whedon was aware of the fact that the studio had plans to introduce Captain Marvel, which was later played by Brie Larson. Besides, Whedon also knew that Sony’s Amy Pascal was in talks with Kevin Feige about introducing Spider-Man in the MCU after a series of underwhelming films about the beloved character. As a result, Whedon suggested including both Captain Marvel and Spider-Man in the concluding scene of Age of Ultron.
Whedon said in the Empire Podcast:
“I wanted all of those people. I said, ‘It would be great if we could just add a few more. If we could have a Captain Marvel there, that you’ve made a deal for.’ And they talked about it. And I was like, ‘And Spider-Man, we could do that too, because Sony had approached us during the first movie about a little integration. So, I would have put both of them in, but neither of the deals were made.”
However, Kevin Feige was certain that Spider-Man would not make his MCU debut at the end of an Avengers movie. However, Feige did allow the director to shoot some Captain Marvel footage. The movie’s final sequence happened at the Avengers headquarters in Upstate New York, with Captain America looking at new recruits, including the Vision, the Falcon, and War Machine.
Brie Larson’s The Marvels Fails To Generate The Buzz
With most of the original Avengers retiring from the MCU, Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel appears to have taken the lead role in the franchise. However, her upcoming film, The Marvels, seems destined to be a failure as the studio tries to fix the current universe.
Amid presale ticket sales and promotional campaigns, The Marvels seems to be ranking even below Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam and Ezra Miller’s The Flash! If this turns out to be true, The Marvels could potentially be one of MCU’s biggest disasters to date.
The MCU kicked off in 2008 with Robert Downey Jr. assuming the role of Tony Stark in Iron Man. With yearly releases that created the MCU, the saga came to an epic conclusion with 2019’s Avengers: Endgame, where Iron Man made the ultimate sacrifice.
Since Avengers: Endgame, the MCU has witnessed some setbacks. With an emphasis on TV shows and the integration of Disney+ series, the MCU has experienced some fluctuations. And considering the low ticket presale for Brie Larson’s The Marvels, it seems that the MCU will have some thinking to do.
