Chainsaw Man is one of the hottest-selling manga. According to Viz Media, it is among the top five anime with the most manga sales. Everyone thought it was the end after Denji killed Makima, but Tatsuki Fujimoto was far from done. He started the second part of Chainsaw Man, and people are enjoying it. With more powerful Devils and a greater evil lurking in the back, it is a great shonen manga.
But Tatsuki Fujimoto’s magnum opus has one thing different from the rest of the shonen manga. While most mangaka uses male characters to hold important roles, Fujimoto does not follow that path. Most of his powerful characters are female. More importantly, his love for women in power has given rise to speculation that the four horsemen of the apocalypse in Chainsaw Man are all female.
The 4 Horsemen in Chainsaw Man
The four horsemen of the apocalypse are the personification of death, famine, war, and conquest. Deeply analyzing the Chainsaw Man timeline, the fans can clearly see that Makima, the Control Devil, signifies the Control/Conquest part. She was the villain in the first part and always tried to control the people around her. Her manipulative and cold yet calm behavior played a huge role in deceiving people. She often treated Denji as her pet and ultimately was eaten by him.
The Control Devil was reborn as Nayuta. To avoid Makima’s fate, Kishibe asked Denji to take care of her. Even though she is starting to look like Makima, Denji’s love and hugs have kept her in place. The next horsemen is Yoru, or the War Devil. The War Devil was introduced in the second part. She is on the hunt for the Chainsaw Man. Since he swallowed the World War 2 Nuclear Bomb and Nazi Devil, her powers have grown weaker. Yoru has a contract with Asa Mitaka.
The third horseman is the Famine Devil. She is often referred to as Fami in Chainsaw Man. She is more mysterious than Control and War Devil. Fami plans on a better tomorrow for humankind by sacrificing the Devils. She wants to trap the Devils inside an aquarium with the Eternity Devil. Even though she wants betterment for the people, her methods require a lot of sacrifice. She caused worldwide destruction after manipulating the War Devil and Falling Devil to fight against each other.
Famine Devil’s motive to do everything was to make Chainsaw Man and War Devil stronger for the last horsemen, Death. The Death Devil has been mentioned a couple of times, but she is yet to be revealed. She is considered to be the strongest of all Devils.
Tatsuki Fujimoto On The Horsemen Being Female Characters
It is nothing new that Tatsuki Fujimoto loves women in power. He has mentioned it in interviews, and likewise, he used several powerful female characters in his manga. Control, War, and Famine have been introduced as female characters. Only Death remains. Fans are speculating Death Devil is a female like the others because Fami and Nayuta had mentioned in the past about them being “sisters.”
Tatsuki Fujimoto’s work is truly a masterpiece, and it is beautiful to see how he managed to bring out the four horsemen of the apocalypse with such perfection. Without the female characters, Denji would not have found any purpose. If Makima was a male, Denji could not have connected with him since he longed for a female presence, and that was his only driving force.
As the story unfolds, more will be known. Everyone is eagerly waiting to see how everything folds after Death Devil makes its debut. Tatsuki Fujimoto might bring more important female characters into play.
