Nominees for The Game Awards 2023 have been announced including the Game of the Year, the top prize of the event. Some of the biggest titles are nominated for the Game of the Year award including Alan Wake 2, Baldur’s Gate 3, and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has received seven nominations across categories including Best Game Direction and Game of the Year. But that’s not all as Yuri Lowenthal is also nominated for his role as Peter Parker/ Spider-Man in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2’s Yuri Lowenthal Gets Nomination for Best Performance Award
Yuri Lowenthal is nominated for the Best Performance award at The Game Awards for his role as Peter Parker in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. The Best Performance Award is awarded to individuals for voice-over acting, motion, or performance capture.
The other nominees for the award include Ben Starr who voiced Clive Rosfield in Final Fantasy XVI, Cameron Monaghan for his role as Cal Kestis in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, Idris Elba is nominated for his role as Solomon Reed in Cyberpunk 2077, Melanie Liburd for her role as Saga Anderson in Alan Wake 2, and Neil Newbon as Astarion in Baldur’s Gate 3.
Yuri Lowenthal’s nomination for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 doesn’t come as a surprise as the voice actor has been widely praised for his role and how well he adapts as Peter Parker. Yuri Lowenthal has been voicing Peter Parker for over a decade. He has also voiced Peter Parker in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 mobile game and his biggest hit came with Insomniac’s Marvel’s Spider-Man in 2018.
Lowenthal was nominated for the Best Performance award at The Game Awards that year as well, however, he didn’t win as Roger Clark won Best Performance for his role as Arthur Morgan in Red Dead Redemption 2. Yuri Lowenthal has been appreciated for his role as Peter Parker by Spider-Man fans around the world for his portrayal of the web crawler with a story that is full of emotions, action, and laughter.
Yuri Lowenthal also nailed his role as Venom symbiote with Tony Todd who voiced Venom and the emotions that he showed the dark side of Peter Parker. Lowenthal’s iconic performance in Marvel’s Spider-Man was seen in the sequel as well and his acting ability made his voice synonymous with the popular character.
Talking about Venom in Spider-Man 2, Lowenthal said that he pushed himself to do better and sound different. He mentioned that he wanted the players and fans to see the difference between Venom and the regular Spider-Man and the other with the symbiote. He also added that he hurt himself once or twice because he was pushing so much to do better.
Lowenthal always wanted to be being Spider-Man and his dream came true with Insomniac’s Spider-Man game. He let the world know that he is perfectly suited for the role, leaving his mark as arguably the best Spider-Man in video games. Lowenthal has also voiced Peter Parker/ Spider-Man in Marvel’s Midnight Suns and while his role in both Marvel’s Midnight Suns and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 were impressive, he stood out more in Spider-Man 2.
Yuri Lowenthal as a voice actor has other titles in his portfolio than just Spider-Man. For example, he also voiced Smoke in Mortal Kombat 1 while he was a couple of years in voicing Peter Parker for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 but most of the fans remember him as Spider-Man.
Yuri Lowenthal’s voice acting prowess with voice-acting coupled with the impressive Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 landed him the nomination for Best Performance at The Game Awards. Although it can’t be said for certain that he will win the award, it is still exciting to see Lowenthal among the nominees. The winners of the Game Awards will be announced on December 7.
