Nominees for the Game Awards 2023, the most coveted video games awards event, have been announced via a live stream on Monday including the Game of the Year 2023. 2023 has been a packed year for video games and this can be seen in the nominations with six AAA titles battling it out for the Game of the Year award.
The Game of the Year 2023 nominees feature games with overwhelmingly positive reviews by fans and critics alike and will be giving tough competition to each other. However, with just six games making the cut for Game of the Year nominations, some other great games have missed out.
The Game Awards Game of the Year 2023 Nominees Have Been Announced
The Game Awards Game of the Year 2023 nominees include some of the most popular and highly awaited titles such as Alan Wake 2 from Remedy Entertainment and Baldur’s Gate 3 from Larian Studios. Other Game of the Year 2023 nominees are Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 from Insomniac Games, Resident Evil 4 from Capcom, Super Mario Bros. Wonder, and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom from Nintendo.
Larian Studios’ Baldur’s Gate 3 recently won the Ultimate Game of the Year award at The Golden Joysticks Awards and has tied with Alan Wake 2 for a total of eight nominations at The Game Awards. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has got seven nominations, Tears of the Kingdom, Super Mario Bros Wonder, and Hi-Fi Rush have earned five nominations each across categories.
Players have been rejoicing seeing their favorite games of the year nominated for the Game of the Year 2023 but still, some of the other popular titles have missed out. Titles like Lies of P, Final Fantasy XVI, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, Starfield, and a few others have been left out of the Game of the Year 2023 nominations. Bethesda’s sci-fi RPG Starfield has been completely ghosted as the popular Xbox-exclusive title has earned a single nomination across 31 categories.
Starfield has been nominated in the Best RPG category but is facing strong competition from the likes of Sea of Stars, Lies of P, and Baldur’s Gate 3. Other Xbox games nominated at The Game Awards include Hi-Fi RUSH from Tango Gameworks which is nominated in five categories including Best Art Direction, Best Score And Music, and Best Action Game. Other than that, Forza Motorsport is also nominated in two categories; Innovation In Accessibility and Best Sports/Racing.
Lies of P has also got a nomination for Best Art Direction, some feel that it should have been nominated for the Game of the Year 2023 instead of a remake like Resident Evil 4 while some stated that the game should have also got a nomination in the Best Score And Music category. Many fans also said that Dead Space Remake should have been on the list as well.
There have been a total of 112 different games, individuals, eSports teams, and events nominated at The Game Awards 2023. Nintendo is the publisher with the most number of nominations with 15 and PlayStation or Sony Interactive Entertainment is right behind it with 13 nominations. Xbox and Epic Games have ten and nine nominations respectively.
The Game Awards 2023 also has a Best Adaptation category that was first introduced last year and the nominees for this category include Castlevania: Nocturne, Gran Turismo, HBO’s The Last of Us, The Super Mario Bros. Movie, and Twisted Metal. The Game Awards 2023 will be held on December 7 at the Peacock Theater in L.A. and will be broadcast across several platforms.
