Wolverine is one of the hottest properties in Marvel. The adamantium-clawed hero has been a regular in the comic books, having established himself as one of the central characters. No wonder Wolverine has been involved with numerous characters over the years. Crossovers with others was not an uncommon sight. Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine can’t boast about the same. The Prestige star to date has only been seen along with the X-Men. But things could have been different had the stars aligned back in 2002.
Hugh Jackman was the perfect Wolverine
Hugh Jackman began his Marvel career with the X-Men all the way back in 2000. The Patrick Stewart starrer marked the beginning of the mutant’s journey on the screen. And there was no turning back from that point.
Wolverine’s popularity skyrocketed. It is no wonder that Wolverine was the only character that had 3 films dedicated to him. It was quite an emotional journey for Hugh Jackman as well. It is not common for you to grab a role that becomes synonymous with your name for eternity.
Hugh Jackman was almost a part of Spider-Man
There is a big question mark on the success of the X-Men franchise. The franchise has had its moments, yet it is not the behemoth that the MCU is. But there can be no doubts about Hugh Jackman’s legacy. The Australian actor generated a lot of hype. And everyone wanted to cash in on it.
As it turns out, he was all set to feature in Spider-Man. Everyone involved wanted to see him in action for the 2002 movie. But in the end, it all fell through. Why? Because they couldn’t arrange the suit.
It was because of the suit
In an interview, Hugh Jackman revealed how he was almost a part of the 2002 flick. He said (via Huff Post)
“In the first “Spider-Man” — Kevin Feige reminded me of this — we really tried to get me to come on and do something, whether it was a gag or just to walk through the shot or something.”
There was one hiccup though. He continued,
“The problem was, we couldn’t find the suit.”
Imagine the odds. Turns out the suit “was stuck in something”. And that is why the move fell through and we were deprived of one of the most hyped crossovers of all time.
