Greta Gerwig’s Barbie has conquered the world this year. The world is acquainted with thin-waisted, blonde-haired dolls who set unrealistic body standards that have stuck in people’s minds.
But the comedy-fantasy film took a different approach to building a new Barbie Land this time, from what it’s always shown. Although it took inspiration from the old Barbie days, in terms of story, characters, and themes to hit that nostalgic vibe, it is definitely a fresh take on Barbie.
There are various animated movies and series, but Barbie was the first live-action film starring the doll. Besides this, the interesting thing to see is people actually loved it. Before its release, many women were excited to watch the nostalgic childhood figure.
However, it was found out that Barbie is not only famous among females, but even the male category too praised it, saying the movie improved their view of women in leadership positions. But here’s another nail-biter. Starring Margot Robbie, the film has overtaken The Avengers as the best-selling movie.
Barbie Takes the Crown: Surpassed 2012 Marvel Blockbuster
Barbie had already crossed $1 billion at the box office on the 17th day of its release. Currently, it has raked in $1.44 billion. The movie has now become the 11th highest-grossing flick in the domestic circuit.
According to Numbers, Barbie has minted 626 million dollars domestically and surpassed the box office collection of the 2012 film The Avengers.
The Marvel film amassed 623 million dollars, 3 million dollars less than Barbie. Now, to come at 10th place, the Margot Robbie starring film needs to overtake the 2015 Jurassic World, which minted 653 million and currently stands at 10th position. But here’s a twist to the plot — the defeat has stunned the Marvel fans even more.
Barbie Movie Outshines The Avengers, Left MCU Fans Stunned
Marvel fans are definitely shocked by the success of Barbie because it has now defeated Earth’s mightiest heroes. In an X post by Variety, an X-user commented, “this is actually depressing.” Fans are overwhelmed to see how a girly flick outshone the mighty superheroes.

There’s no doubt that The Avengers is a straightforward blockbuster and is on the topmost list of Marvel fans. But the recent success of Gerwig’s mega-hit stunned them. Obviously, there’s a strong reason behind it. But the one thing is for sure: Barbie definitely cured the superhero fatigue.
