As the world hypes up for Rockstar Games’ next big reveal with Grand Theft Auto 6, a Black Friday sale has put a spotlight on one of the biggest titles in the open-world genre. Red Dead Redemption 2 is 67% off on Steam, making it one of the most valuable games to add to the collection right now.

The game has received ‘Very Positive’ reviews overall by gamers on Steam. Otherwise, Red Dead Redemption 2 also holds a Metacritic Must-Playscore, making it one of the best video game experiences to have. If one has not played the game before, this Black Friday deal might just be the best digital purchase they’ll make. Do note that one can also pick up Red Dead Redemption 2: Ultimate Edition at 70%.

There are quite a few games on discount thanks to Black Friday, both indie and triple-A titles. However, considering the quality and vastness of Red Dead Redemption 2, the game wins Black Friday.

Red Dead Redemption 2’s Base Version Is 67% Off, and the Ultimate Edition Is 70% Off

Between action sequences and meditative experiences, there's a lot to explore in the game.
Between action sequences and meditative experiences, there’s a lot to explore in the game.

If you’re going for the base game itself, you’ll be getting a big 67% off. Steam is also offering a slightly larger discount (70%) on the Ultimate Edition variant of the game.

The main story takes about 50 to 60 hours to complete. But, who are we kidding? The makers of Grand Theft Auto ensured that Red Dead Redemption 2 is a vast world that does a decent job of distracting you every now and then. Between caring for your horse, hunting animals, and making a difference in a world that’s ever-changing, it’s safe to say that you will be spending a lot of time doing everything but the main missions.

Set in a landscape that thrives on a classic Western tale of gangsters and families, Rockstar’s massive open-world game tells the story of Arthur Morgan. The protagonist’s shrewd sense of loyalty and a weaker grasp on morality put players in the backdrop of a gorgeous world that’s always living, breathing, and basing its reality on how the players choose to play.

Between main quests and side missions to choose from, Arthur’s journey will take players across a huge map that has diverse flora and fauna, often showing off Rockstar’s immaculate sense of game design that seldom feels like a chore. Seriously, spend a minute or so doing nothing, and there will be a world event that asks you to volunteer. The game’s world is immersive enough to persuade you to take things slow and not rush through the main story.

Completionists with a sizeable bounty on their heads can expect to invest more than 200 hours in all that the game has to offer. And then there’s the infamous Red Dead Online, which may or may not be your cup of whiskey but has some new content nonetheless.

The Ultimate Edition Gives You a Few Perks, Alongside an Online Mode

The game's single-player experience alone has enough content worth multiple playthroughs.

In addition to everything included with the base game, the Ultimate Edition offers the following:

  • Red Dead Redemption 2: Story Mode
  • Red Dead Online
  • Bonus Outfits (for your online character)
  • Rank Bonuses
  • Black Chestnut Thoroughbred
  • Free access to the Survivor Camp theme

Do keep in mind that the reception for the game’s online mode has received mixed reviews when compared to the single-player base version.

Unlike Grand Theft Auto Online, Rockstar has paid little attention to Red Dead Online. The multiplayer variant of the game focuses on building businesses, robberies, hunting missions, bounties, and more. It’s fun for a while, but after that, well, let’s just say the entire thing makes the single-player experience even more worthwhile.

Getting the online version of the game side-by-side isn’t the worst deal of all, but do consider many other games you can get on the Black Friday sale. Some of these include Bomb Rush Cyberfunk, Cyberpunk 2077, Dead Space (2023), and more.

To get a more RPG-esque experience out of the game, your second playthrough can be the opposite of how things went during your first time. You see, the morality system in Red Dead Redemption 2 makes for a big chunk of decision-making, changes in dialogue, and story consequences. So, if you happened to play as a good samaritan in your first playthrough, go ahead and become a living legend of an outlaw in your second one.

The narrative is a prequel to the first game and dives deeper into how the civilization around its prominent characters keeps evolving. Except for that, these characters often have a tough time trying to keep up. The graphics are gorgeous, the story is on point, and the gunplay and free-roaming make for an immersive gameplay loop. All of this is at a massive discount, thanks to the Black Friday sale.

It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say that this is, indeed, the perfect game to get right now.

The sale ends on November 28 at 10 a.m. PT, so make sure you get the game before it goes back to its original price.
