DC Studios is set to relaunch the Batman franchise with its upcoming movie Batman: The Brave and the Bold. DC fans last witnessed the Caped Crusader in 2022’s The Batman, led by a new face. With Robert Pattinson’s impeccable acting, and Matt Reeves’ well-directed version, it was an immediate success. Now, after James Gunn and Peter Safran presumed duties of the new DC bosses, the night-time crime fighter is about to get a reboot.
Moreover, this may serve as a good opportunity for Gunn to fix a major problematic element that was missed out on most Batman movies, except one. DC Studios head, Gunn teased the launch of a new DCU that shall intertwine the worlds of DC superheroes, much like the MCU. However, this time, fans are anticipating to see a Bat family after 26 years.

James Gunn is keen on putting the Bat-family together
Almost three decades after DC fans saw a glimpse of the Bat-family was in 1997’s Batman & Robin. The Joel Schumacher-led film was innovative in that way. Although the iconic team of George Clooney’s Batman, Chris O’Donnell’s Robin, and Alicia Silverstone as Batgirl was featured only around the ending of the movie. Since the movie was widely panned by critics, the Bat-family appearance was not a big catch.
Nevertheless, James Gunn intends to do right by the fans 26 years later, per ScreenRant. Apart from Zack Snyder’s Justice League, Batman has been largely portrayed as a solitary fighter on his quest to save Gotham City. But the new vision for Detective Comics Inc., surely makes fans hopeful of the emergence of a multiverse of DC superheroes. Moreover, the cowl will have greater responsibilities in Batman: The Brave and The Bold.
Gunn is determined that Batman will be a part of multiple universes that share the possibility of a Bat-family making the silver screens. As per the source, it is confirmed that Bruce Wayne’s son, Damian Wayne will be featured as the new Robin.
While for the other Robins, DCU will make sure to send them to their appropriate universes. Speaking of Batgirl, there are high chances of Barbara Gordon’s Batgirl reprising in the Batman movie, alongside Stephanie Brown and Cassandra Cain from other universes.
Who will be the next Batman?
Robert Pattinson’s The Batman grossed $772 million worldwide, per Box Office Mojo. Yet, fans do not expect him to return in Gunn’s version. Neither does Ben Affleck have much possibility of returning to his cowl duty, per ScreenRant. This leaves fans anticipating a fresh new face to the Caped Crusader, who will also don the lavish demeanor of Bruce Wayne.
The Brave and the Bold will revolve around a peculiar father-son plotline, of Batman and Robin. As per Variety, The Flash creator Andy Muschietti will be directing the movie that shall be a part of DCU’s Chapter 1, Gods and Monsters. While Batman goes into production, the new DCU’s foremost release, Superman: Legacy will hit theatres on July 11, 2025.
