Attack on Titan has quite a large fandom in terms of the number of fans, and as usual, there are many different opinions about the series in the community. However, most of the fandom seems to dislike the last few chapters of the manga.
Attack on Titan began in 2009 and ended in 2021, with 139 chapters. The last few chapters of the series are pretty controversial, and one of the reasons is that Ymir, who was enslaved by the king’s will, was still somehow in love with him, and to show him affection, the power of the titans was passed down.

As shown in her backstory, she was a regular girl whose village was raided, and she was captured. Later on, she was betrayed by the villagers, who falsely accused her of a crime.
The king and his minions hunted her down until she stumbled upon a tree, where she slipped and entered, giving her titan powers.
Later on, the king forced her to marry him and even have kids for him to monopolize the power. Her life has been filled with abuse by the king; however, it turns out she loved him despite whatever happened between them.
This was seen in the last chapter, where it was stated that Ymir kept passing on the power of the Titans to show the king her love and devotion towards him.
This confused many fans, who could not understand why she still loved him, as he was the reason for her misery.
Chapter 139 was the reason why fans got split into two sides
The community was one until the last few chapters of the manga; however, chapter 139 was the divergence point.
According to many readers, chapter 139 was the worst in the story, as it did not make any sense. This included everything from Armin telling Eren thank you for becoming a mass murderer to the revelation of Ymir being in love.
One of the other reasons was Eren confessing her love for Mikasa and wanting her not to move on from him and not get herself another love interest.
Many fans believe that this was out of character for Eren. The most controversial point came when it was revealed that paradise was destroyed after many decades.
However, the ending of the series is the most fitting conclusion and perfectly reflects the message that the cycle of violence will never end.
