The introduction of devils into the narrative was one of the elements that added interest to Chainsaw Man. But Denji is the most intriguing devil in the series. Chainsaw Man, the half-human, half-demon hybrid, was created when Denji’s best friend Pochita, the Chainsaw Devil, replaced his heart.

Denji differs from other devils in many ways because of this particular situation, some of which are still unanswered in the series. But the one thing that sets Chainsaw Man apart from the other devils is his capacity to remove them from all of existence. The origin of this ability has not been explained yet, but one theory may have the answer for how this ability was given to Chainsaw Man.

The Concept of Devils in Chainsaw Man

In Chainsaw Man, devils come from Hell and enter the world of humans to prey on their fears. A devil gains more power the more people fear their name.  Every Devil has a name from birth that corresponds to an idea. These can be completely abstract or very tangible.

The degree to which the Devil is perceived as frightening depends on how strong of an association it has with fear in the human psyche. The Devil concept itself need not be frightening in and of itself. Devils who die in Hell make another appearance in the world of humans, and vice versa.

Devils have no memory of their past lives, and they completely reset who they are. All these attributes make the devils in Chainsaw Man unique. But the most unique devil till now is the Chainsaw Man, who can remove the devils from existence. A theory has answered how this works.

Theory Suggests How Chainsaw Man Can Erase Devils Completely

According to the theory, there may have once been a human devil hunter who killed devils with a chainsaw. It is also possible that the aforementioned devil hunter had an agreement with the “forgetting devil” that any devil he killed would vanish from the face of the earth. The demon hunter might be able to cause havoc in hell if he had sufficient strength.

The devil can never die because, according to popular belief, he will always rise again as long as he is remembered. However, losing to the devil hunter with the chainsaw would mean death in the end because of the contract with the Forgetting Devil.

By doing this, the Chainsaw Man would become the ultimate devil and instill fear in the hearts of the devils. Although this is just a theory, it makes a lot of sense. The fact that the Chainsaw Man is the only devil does not have a devil behind its name also adds credence to this theory.
