One of the greatest anime of all time, One Piece, will enter its Final Saga in January. The mastermind behind creating such an anime, Eiichiro Oda, confirmed that this would be the biggest war after the Wano arc. The Strawhats are finally on their way to Egghead after freeing the Land of Wano from the tyrannical rule of Kaido and Orochi.

One thing that the fans cannot help but notice is Sanji’s ability to create fire at will. The Lunarians are the only tribe in Eiichiro Oda’s One Piece who can generate fire on their choice without any Devil Fruit powers. So, it has made the people ask whether Sanji belongs to the Lunarian tribe. But this ability was hinted at much earlier in the series by Eiichiro Oda.

In Volume 105 of One Piece, there is a question that asks the creator about Sanji’s eyebrow being reversed in Chapter 1031 and then coming back to normal in Chapter 1044. Eiichiro Oda answered that it definitely changed. It was visible during the Whole Cake Island arc, where all of Sanji’s brothers and sisters had the same reversed eyebrows. It was due to their Lineage Factor Manipulation. He also mentioned that Sanji was born a normal human due to his mother’s resistance.

Eiichiro Oda later said,

“Everyone has “66” like Yonji. Sanji is the exact opposite. That was the battle where “the power of science” was manifested in the wake of the raid suit! Sanji originally had an abnormal resistance to “flame”. It was strange. Let’s keep watching.”

It was quite clear that the mangaka himself confirmed that Sanji is resistant to flame, so he does not have any problem burning so hot.

To make it fun for the audience, Eiichiro Oda used this context to make a panel where Sanji got asked why he does not burn from his high flames. He answered that his heart burns hotter, or in other words, it is his burning passion. Even Queen of the Beast Pirates, who was a science person, was shocked to see such high flames and exclaimed that a normal human couldn’t have such high flames without burning. Sanji said that his heart burns the hottest, and that is why his flames are the hottest.

Sanji’s Fire Spirit Was Teased Early in The Anime

During the Baratie arc, Sanji mentioned that a cook needs to stay close to the fire and not be afraid of it. Next came Pearl of Krieg Pirates, who could light himself on fire. While others were fearful of getting near to him, Sanji went to attack at once. Sanji mastered the art of generating flames from his body while he was fighting Jabra during the Enies Lobby arc. With heads down and legs up, he started to spin his legs vigorously and produced flames upon his legs. With the ignited legs, he only needed two hits to lay down Jabra of CP9.

His Diable Jambe was undoubtedly one of his strongest moves and made him one of the most powerful characters in Eiichiro Oda’s One Piece. But he found a way to surpass himself in the Wano arc when his flames became even hotter. During his battle with Queen, his latent German powers awakened, and his body became iron-hard. As a result, his newfound flames burned the brightest and hottest. This new flame was blue and produced electricity, and it could damage someone’s insides when hit. Sanji named it the Ifrit Jambe.

It is often shown that when Sanji gets jealous, he burns in a fire that showcases his rage. While it is used as comic relief, it might be Eiichiro Oda’s subtle hint at Sanji being fire resistance. Even though Sanji hates his Germa lineage, it might be awakened. Germa is known for their scientific experiments, so it might be a possibility that Sanji was a Lunarian experiment, which lets him produce and play with fire with ease. Moreover, during the timeskip, he trained himself and got even stronger.
