Although the anime industry is creating great shows one after another, there are some shows that do not live up to the expectations of the fans. One of them is Classroom of the Elite. While over the years Classroom of the Elite has built up a significant fanbase, some people believe that the series is one of the cringiest anime shows of all time.

The plot revolves around a class whose members are destined to succeed in whatever field they choose and is set in the elite national high school “Tokyo Metropolitan Advanced Nurturing School,” which was founded by the Japanese government. Given that the entire purpose of the series is to set up the conditions for each student to continuously outsmart the others, it is known for its complex web of deception and clever tactics.

The show is based on a series of light novels published in Japan that were written and illustrated by Shunsaku Tomose and Shōgo Kinugasa. In 2017, the first season premiered. The second season ran from July to September 2022, and the third season began airing in January 2024. But there is a reason why many people find the series one of the cringiest anime shows of all time.

Classroom of the Elite is One of the Cringiest Anime of All Time

The main reason behind Classroom of the Elite being deemed as cringey is because of its main character, Kiyotaka Ayanokōji. He is a second-year student at Advanced Nurturing High School right now. He was placed in D-Class after completing the entrance exam, on which he received exactly 50 points in each subject.

As the story of the series follows Kiyotaka, it is revealed that he is extremely talented and overpowered and as he wants to blend into the surroundings, he decides to hide his talent and abilities so that he doesn’t get attention. Still, some people can recognize his genius and act accordingly around it.

The problem with this plotline is that almost every new anime series is using the same plotline and the repetitiveness has caused fans to get bored with the anime series. Some examples of similar plotlines are The Eminence in Shadow and The Daily Life of the Immortal King. Because of this, the series doesn’t get recognized and the majority of people find it cringey.

Poorly Written Characters Make Classroom of the Elite Cringey

Many people believe that the series has a lot of poorly written characters that either don’t get much focused on or don’t have proper character development. It is a very poor adaptation from its source material which makes it miss the mark and impact that the original has on the audience.

The first season had a lot of plotholes as it did not follow the source material to its end and while the animation and the styling were nice, the plot was too bland in the initial episodes. While people call Kiyotaka too edgy and hollow, he is also the only thing that makes the series a bit interesting.

While the third season has recently started airing, it can change the overall conception of the anime show and has the possibility to remove the tag of one of the cringiest anime series of all time from the series.
