However, Attack on Titan may not have had that great of a year as the series failed to make it into the Anime of the Year nomination for the Crunchyroll Anime Awards 2024. The annual Crunchyroll Anime Awards are a program of recognition for the skill and artistic merit of Japanese animation.

The awards program will hold its eighth annual awards ceremony this year. It was extremely disappointing for Attack on Titan fans to find out that the series did not make the cut for the Anime of the Year nomination, while other prominent series like Chainsaw Man and Jujutsu Kaisen were nominated. But there is a reason why Attack on Titan was not nominated for the category.

Even though Attack on Titan: Final Season – The Final Chapters had its highly anticipated finale air in 2023, it did not make the cut and was not included among the nominees. Fans were extremely upset to learn that, even though Attack on Titan was in its final year before ending in 2023, their beloved series had not been included in the nomination lists.

The voting procedure for the anime awards is probably the reason it was not selected. Only the anime series that aired in Japan between October 2022 and September 2023 were eligible for nomination by the judges, per the voting procedure.

Since the premiere of the first episode of the finale on March 4th, the first episode was taken into consideration. However, the second special episode was released much later, on November 4, 2023. Therefore, it’s possible that the judges did not think Attack on Titan was a worthy nominee for the award, given that only one of the two special episodes was released before the end of the voting period.
