Crunchyroll recently released the nominations for the Anime of the Year Award for the 8th Annual Crunchyroll Anime Awards and one interesting nomination was Bocchi The Rock! During the Fall 2022 season, Bocchi the Rock! stood out because it was a mild and emotionally driven anime series that had a unique concept and imagination to it, which was loved by fans.
Its popularity only keeps increasing; in fact, it has surpassed the highly regarded Chainsaw Man in terms of ranking. It won the highly coveted Anime of the Year title at the 9th Anime Trending Awards in February 2023, and it instantly became popular throughout the anime community.
Eight awards were won by the musical-themed slice-of-life anime during the 9th Anime Trending Awards, including Best in Adapted Screenplay, Best in Episode Directing and Storyboard, and more. And now looking at its winning streak, it may very well take home the Crunchyroll Anime of the Year award beating popular anime series like Demon Slayer and Jujutsu Kaisen.
What is Bocchi The Rock! About?
The anime series Bocchi the Rock! is based on Aki Hamaji’s four-panel Japanese manga series. CloverWorks produced the anime, which ran from October to December of 2022. The narrative centers on the incredibly shy and nervous Hitori Gotō, who, despite her difficulties, aspires to be a rock musician and eventually make friends.
She is given the opportunity to do so at an unexpected moment when Nijika Ijichi accepts her into her newly established Kessoku Band. She has never played with other musicians, so in addition to learning how to get along with them and synchronize her playing, she also needs to learn how to perform live in front of an audience.
The anime series gained a huge fan following in a short period. And this not only helped the anime series but the manga too as Bocchi the Rock manga reached a total of 3 million copies in circulation with just its first six volumes. Considering the manga’s previous slow sales, this is a significant increase.
Bocchi The Rock! May Beat Jujutsu Kaisen and Demon Slayer
The first season of Bocchi The Rock!, Chainsaw Man, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Swordsmith Village Arc, Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2, Oshi No Ko’s first season, and Vinland Saga Season 2 were among the nominees for the Crunchyroll Anime Awards’ 2024 Anime of the Year Title category.
While the list majorly includes prominent anime series like Demon Slayer, Chainsaw Man, Jujutsu Kaisen, and Vinland Saga, Bocchi The Rock! may just beat them and steal the title. Fans of the show, which is among the greatest anime about rock bands and features a highly introverted main character, have been clamoring for more seasons since the first season has already concluded.
A truly original anime, Bocchi the Rock! skillfully combines comedy, music, and moments from everyday life to provide viewers with a warm as well as enjoyable experience that may even prove to be its contemplating factor and let it grab the Anime of the Year Award at the 2024 Crunchyroll Anime Awards.
You can watch Bocchi The Rock! on Crunchyroll and Apple TV.
