Between all the theories and pieces of lore that nourish the game’s universe, there are five in particular that we’d like to breathe life into Elden Ring’s expansion. These are tales of mystery that build some of the greatest characters and story arcs in the game.

Who Does Torrent Initially Serve?

Elden Ring Torrent
Torrent is a faithful companion throughout the game.

At the beginning of the Elden Ring, players are introduced to the lovable and unique horse, Torrent. With the help of the Spectral Seed, players are able to summon Torrent and traverse the Lands Between as per their wish.

However, we never truly find out who he initially served before Ranni tells us about his history. Shadow of the Erdtree would be a great way to find out.

Learning more about the Gloam-Eyed Queen

Famous for their environmental storytelling, FromSoftware games often don’t directly tell players about characters and their origins. Eventually, we learn about them through different objects and side quests in the game.

One such mystery surrounds the Gloam-Eyed Queen, who holds an important part in the game’s lore. There is some enigmatic information surrounding Melina actually being her, and Elden Ring’s expansion holds the potential to explore this arc.

Ranni and the Black Knife Assassins

One of the few betrayals in the game’s lore surrounds the story of Ranni and the Black Knife Assassins. Initially, these assassins aided Ranni in going against Godwyn the Golden, but things took a turn, and they worked against her instead. What exactly led to this betrayal?

We don’t know this yet. But there’s a chance we might learn about this in Shadow of the Erdtree.

The Fingerslayer Blade and the Eternal City

The Eternal City looks and feels like a person’s hidden layers of consciousness, with all sorts of mysteries surrounding it. There’s a key item to be found here: the Fingerslayer Blade which is required to progress through Ranni’s questline. The item’s description hints at a lot of parts of the game’s lore that feel unexplored, and maybe the DLC will take a chance at unveiling the same.

The Truth of Melina in Elden Ring

Elden Ring lore Melina
Melina’s mysterious presence throughout the game can mark the birth of many stories to come.

It’s ironic how little we know about Melina, despite her being one of the main characters in the game. There’s a lot to her story, given the little fragments of narrative we find about her throughout the game. One of which focuses on the part about her origin, honing her purpose given by Queen Marika.

Does this mean that she’s somehow related to her? If true, it would link Melina to several different character arcs, which makes Shadow of the Erdtree the ideal source of storytelling.
