For an actor, it is a peculiar experience to encounter a character you’re about to portray in the flesh—or in plastic. After reading the script for Greta Gerwig’s Barbie, Ryan Gosling found a real-life counterpart in his backyard: one of his daughters’ Ken dolls, lying naked in the dirt with its face in mud.

While speaking to Variety, Ryan Gosling gleefully shares this tale, and long after the film’s release, he discovered Ken in his home once more, now better dressed in a tuxedo (albeit sleeveless). When asked about the transformation, his daughters explained, “Oh, he died of armpit arthritis. Ken’s dead!” Gosling, reflects, “Well, at least he’s face up and wearing clothes. I feel like he was a little better off than where I found him.”

Gosling’s unconventional portrayal contributed to the increased attention on a Ken doll residing with two young girls in Southern California. The actor certainly breathed new life into the character. Ken’s name now graces sweaters, inspired by the one Gosling dons in the movie that reads “I am Kenough.”

Ryan Gosling was considered the best thing about Barbie last year and it is not hard to see why, as he truly brought life to the movie in his role as Ken, opposite to Margot Robbie’s Barbie.

Greta Gerwig’s Barbie broke tons of records as it earned an earth-shattering $1.4 billion at the Box Office. Because of the movie’s major success, it was a given that a sequel would be made. However, fans might be in for a disappointment in that regard.

While speaking to AP Entertainment, Margot Robbie was asked about a sequel to Barbie. Margot Robbie made it clear that when they made the first film, they didn’t have any sequels planned for the future.

“I think we put everything into this one. We didn’t build it to be a trilogy or something. It was like Greta put everything into this movie, so I can’t imagine what would be next.”

Fans are likely to express disappointment over the potential lack of a sequel for Barbie. Despite this, Margot Robbie’s upcoming projects offer hope for future enjoyment, which is at least better than not getting any films featuring her.
