Many fans believe that Blackbeard will be the main villain of the series and the concluding fight will be between Luffy and Blackbeard. This fight will determine who will reach the One Piece treasure and achieve the title of the King of The Pirates. However, there is a chance that it may not happen at all.

According to a theory, Luffy might not fight against Blackbeard, much less beat him. Instead, another character will be the one to attack and win against the antagonist of the series and that character is none other than Koby, who nearly escaped from Blackbeard’s grasp recently in One Piece manga.

Koby’s Rapid Character Growth in One Piece

Once depicted in One Piece as a timid little boy, Koby has grown into a Marine Captain who trained with Helmeppo under Vice Admiral Garp’s guidance. He is now serving with the SWORD Marine Special Forces unit. Koby became well-known for his heroic deeds during the time skip as a result of the Rocky Port Incident.

Koby has been granted a 5-star bounty by the Cross Guild, which is valued at 500,000,000 berries, in recognition of his heroic status. As the show went on, he developed into such a strong and responsible character that, following the world government’s dismantling of the Warlord System, he was given the duty of apprehending Boa Hancock.

But he was unsuccessful, as the Blackbeard Pirates stormed Hancock’s island. And though Hancock was saved by Rayleigh, Blackbeard kidnapped Koby. Later on, Garp had to save Koby from the Blackbeard pirates which resulted in him being defeated and captured by the Blackbeard Pirates’ recent member Aokiji.

Theory Claims Koby Will Be The One To Defeat Blackbeard

According to a One Piece theory, Koby would overcome Blackbeard in the One Piece series. This has been documented historically, dating back to the 17th and 18th centuries. The name “Blackbeard” belonged to Edward Teach, a real-life pirate. Looking into Edward Thatch’s life, one may see the connections between Koby and Blackbeard in the anime and manga series.

Thatch was a legendary pirate who caused havoc during the real-world pirate era. He was, however, assassinated by a man named Robert Maynard. Robert Maynard was a Navy lieutenant in charge of tracking down and executing Blackbeard. There is an intriguing link between this historical event and Blackbeard and Koby from the One Piece universe.

Koby might have been influenced by Robert Maynard, whereas Blackbeard might have been called after Edward Thatch. This is because Blackbeard also wreaks havoc in the One Piece world and similar to Maynard, Koby hopes to become a Navy Fleet Admiral and may need to capture or kill a person as formidable as Blackbeard to achieve this goal.
