The final match of WrestleMania 31 was the defining moment for wrestler Seth Rollins. The legendary wrestler became the first and only person to cash in his Money in the Bank contract in the middle of the match and made himself part of a Triple Threat match between headliners Brock Lesner and Roman Reigns. Rollins won his first world championship that day.
The match was controversial from the beginning as Roman Reigns had become a controversial figure for the fans. Reigns had won the Royal Rumble that year, a decision that was not welcomed by the fans at the time as they expected Daniel Bryan to face off against Brock Lesner at WrestleMania. While Bryan defeated Seth Rollins to face Reigns at the Fastlane event, he lost to Reigns, giving the latter the edge to fight Lesner.
At WrestleMania 31, Reigns and Lesner faced off against each other trading blows when Seth Rollins entered in the middle of the match with his MITB briefcase. The wrestler had won it a few months ago and cashed in his contract to enter the ring, turning it into a Triple Threat match. After throwing Reigns out of the ring, Rollins began to fight Lesner (via Pro Wrestling).
While Reign managed to incapacitate Lesner, it made him vulnerable to a Curb Stomp by Rollins. After the move, Rollins pinned Reigns and won the World Heavyweight Championship. In a recent video that resurfaced on X (formerly Twitter), Rollins can be briefly heard saying, “Thank you so much” to Reigns while pinning him.

Seth Rollins’ win at the WrestleMania 31 main event is often considered to be the wrestler’s career highlight. Rollins spoke about his legendary moment at the event when he crashed in on Roman Reigns and Brock Lesner’s match. In a talk during Gorilla Position’s Live Event, Rollins mentioned how he had pitched the idea months earlier and that the moment was done on the go. He said that the moment his music hit, everything else was a blur.
“I didn’t find out until half-way to three-fourths of the show…I was happy and ready to sail off into the night…Michael Hayes grabbed me, and walked me into the room, and told me what was going on and we figured out…once my music hit, it was all a blur. I remember almost nothing except for thanking Roman when I covered him…I get to relive it all the time with highlight packages.”
Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns were two-thirds of the group The Shield before parting ways in 2014. The moment is regarded as one of the best events in WrestleMania history and saw Rollins receive the glory he deserved.
