Emilia Clarke is effortlessly one of the most beloved actresses in Hollywood, with her acting chops, beauty, wit, and personality — all leaving her audiences truly stunned. Among all the roles she has donned to date across multiple genres, her most acclaimed performance still remains her iconic portrayal of Daenerys Targaryen in Game of Thrones, which also gifted her most of her fame.

However, even after achieving that impeccable feat through the novels-based television series, Clarke was quite a bit dissatisfied with it for a peculiar reason. And, surprisingly enough, this reason wasn’t related to the controversial ending of the series — which notably saw her character getting murdered at the hands of her very own lover, Jon Snow — but for another reason entirely.
Emilia Clarke Found This Aspect of Game of Thrones Dissatisfying
Emilia Clarke initially earned quite a bit of her fame through her performance as The Mother of Dragons aka Daenerys Targaryen in the superhit TV series Game of Thrones. And yet, she felt like nothing more than a “small cog” in it — something that truly left her dissatisfied with the saga.

During an interview with Esquire, the Me Before You actress talked about the same when asked about how she felt when the show ended when it did. As opposed to what many may have expected of her, she claimed that happy would be “a funny word” to describe her feelings toward it.
Instead, what she felt was more of a dissatisfaction toward it because of how small she felt in that massive, massive world. As per what she said during the interview:
“The show was so big. I was a small cog in a very, very, very big machine.”

That being said, she also added how this very factor even lessened the chances of the show serving her creativity on any level. Clarke said:
“Doing a show so many people had opinions about doesn’t serve your creativity on any level.”
Needless to say, the Secret Invasion star‘s words are only true and understandable even when her character was one of the most prominent ones in the entire saga. But this isn’t the only thing about the blockbuster series that left her dissatisfied, for one other factor left her annoyed too.
Emilia Clarke “Really felt for” Her Game of Thrones Character

While being dissatisfied with the show for how it didn’t “serve her creativity on any level” was one thing, Clarke was also annoyed by how her character Daenerys Targaryen had to leave the fictional world of Game of Thrones in the most heart-wrenching manner.
According to what the Solo: A Star Wars Story actress expressed during the same interview while talking about Daenerys:
“I felt for her. I really felt for her. And yeah, was I annoyed that Jon Snow didn’t have to deal with something? He got away with murder—literally.”

Now that is indeed something that had even the fans upset to the core about it, so we can’t really blame Emilia Clarke for feeling that way. Nonetheless, the actress also claimed that the series was a “gift” for her as an actor, so we guess she doesn’t quite hold any (too) hard feelings toward it.
All 8 seasons of Game of Thrones can be streamed on HBO.
