With the studio set to introduce Marvel’s first family Fantastic Four in the MCU, fans are revisiting the previous adaptations of the superhero team, including Josh Trank’s 2015 reboot boasting a stellar cast including Miles Teller, Michael B. Jordan, Kate Mara, Jamie Bell. There is no denying that the film has not been the best the superhero genre has to offer and fans have now noted one glaring flaw that further compounds its shortcomings.
The superhero team has always been defined as Marvel’s first family. However, the 2015 reboot film doesn’t seem too keen to follow the concept as two of the leading characters Susan Storm and The Thing hardly have a conversation in the movie.
The Fantastic Four Reboot Falters in Depicting Ben and Sue Storm’s Relationship
Directed by Josh Trank, the 2015 film Fantastic Four introduced a new cast. The film follows four youngsters who gain superpowers after being transported to an alternate universe. The movie was heavily criticized, leading the studio to cancel any future plans to develop the franchise.
Among the film’s various shortcomings, also includes the lack of significant interaction between two key characters. Throughout the whole movie, The Invisible Woman and The Thing hardly interact with each other. Fans have taken note of the absence of significant one-on-one exchanges between them.
The only brief conversation between the characters is in the closing moments of the film where they discuss their team’s name. Fans expressed their disbelief over the filmmakers’ ignorance to showcase any dynamic between the characters, particularly considering Susan Storm is often seen as the anchor of the superhero team.

“There’s no way,” one fan shared their reaction to the revelation while others cringed at their brief conversation in the last minutes of the movie. Interestingly, the actors have shared that they actually shot a scene together as Ben and Susan. However, it was eventually removed from the final version of the film.
Jamie Bell And Kate Mara’s Deleted Scene in Fantastic Four
While the film does not feature an interaction between Ben and Susan, played by Jamie Bell and Kate Mara, respectively, the actors have revealed that they did film a scene, that did not make the cut. In an interview with ComicBook.com, the Fantastic Four stars recalled filming the scene.
“I had a scene with Kate and apparently it’s cut! I was really excited about it!” Bell said. The actor further shared that Ben and Susan have a brief awkward conversation outside Reed Richard’s house in the movie.
“It was a scene where Dr. Storm is at Reed’s house trying to tell his parents how talented Reed is and Reed’s parents are going like, ‘Okay, we don’t know what our son is, but okay.’ And she’s kind of waiting outside and I come to, like, Reed’s house, and I’m like, kind of awkward cause she’s a girl.”
The scene involved Ben frequently questioning Susan Storm about his friend, Reed Richards. “And I’m like, ‘What’s going on in there? What are they talking about? Is he gonna be alright? Do I need to take care of this?'” Bell recalled, saying that he was excited to film the scene with Mara. The actress also shared that it was the first scene she shot for the movie.
Despite the lack of interaction on-screen, the two actors forged a romantic connection off-screen after co-starring in the 2015 superhero film. They tied the knot in 2017 and now have two children together, a son and a daughter.
