Gojo’s death did not fare well for anyone, be it for the fans, Jujutsu Kaisen‘s sales, or Gege Akutami’s reputation. The sudden death brought about a mass upset amongst fans, and memes threatening Gege Akutami became the new norm.

But it seems like the author is finally willing to rectify his wrongdoings in the upcoming chapters of the manga.

After getting pummelled by Yuji and Todo, Sukuna is finally getting weaker. Suddenly, he sees the silhouette of someone from the corner of his vision. The narrative states that Sukuna can see the ghost of the strongest person he had buried with his hands.

Since Gojo is the strongest modern Jujutsu sorcerer, there is no doubt that it’s his return that is being hinted at. However, if you need more evidence, the series’ editor added another note at the end of the chapter, which stated:

“Those eyes are unmistakable.”

This statement seems to be an obvious hint at Goho’s legendary Six Eyes technique. Since editors know what will happen in the upcoming chapters, they often give a slight hint to increase the hype for the next chapter.

In fact, at the end of chapter 258, the editor hinted at an upcoming death, and in the very next chapter, Choso died while trying to protect Yuji from Sukuna’s Divine Flames.

Theories Regarding Gojo’s Return

Now, while it is easy to say that Gojo will return, it is not so easy to explain how he has returned from the dead. Did he use the Reverse Cursed Technique? Did Shoko heal him? Or is it just a ghost? A fan theory explains all the possibilities in detail.

First, let’s come down to the Cursed Object Theory, according to which Gojo could have turned himself into a Cursed Object or Cursed Spirit just before dying. Very few characters have actually used this technique in Jujutsu Kaisen, including Kenjaku and Sukuna. Thus, Gojo, who is also extremely powerful, could have chosen this path.

But what if Gojo is actually a ghost that Sukuna is perceiving? Remember that Sukuna has been fighting sorcerors nonstop, and Yuji has hit him with the Black Flash multiple times. In the last hit, Yuji basically twisted his insides after an attack. Sukuna has lost a lot of energy, and he is on the verge of defeat. Thus, he is somewhere in the middle of life and death, and he could be seeing Gojo’s ghost from the afterlife.

However, this depressing theory is most likely not to be true since, historically, the word ‘ghost’ has been used to describe living people in Jujutsu Kaisen as well. The more likely possibility is that Shoko healed Gojo by using her Reverse Cursed Technique. She is unnaturally good at regenerating lost limbs and healing wounds, and even Gojo isn’t as good at it.

Another extremely viable option is for Gojo to use a Binding Vow. Sukuna and other characters have used Binding Vows to escape critical situations in Jujutsu Kaisen. Sukuna proposed a Binding Vow to heal Yuji in return for Sukuna taking over control for a minute. Yuta made a Binding Vow to kill Yuji and then surpassed it by resurrecting him with a reversed cursed technique after killing him.

Thus, Gojo could use a Binding Vow to resurrect himself, but what would be the exchange? It is possible that Gojo gave away one of his eyes in exchange for his life. Thus, only one eye was visible in the last panel of the manga.
