When Vegeta was first introduced in Dragon Ball, he was a hard-headed, testosterone-filled Saiyan. He was born to battle and quickly became the strong antagonist of the series. But look at him now, he has a wife and children, and has developed empathy!
At the very least, he is a much better father than Goku. But that’s not all; the Saiyan has finally understood that overtaking Goku does not mean attaining the same transformations as him.
Vegeta’s Super Saiyan God SS Evolved Against Granolah in Dragon Ball
When Granolah became adamant that he would kill all surviving Saiyans, Vegeta saw his chance and transformed into Super Saiyan God SS Evolved, a state that is untouched by Goku. He demonstrated his new powers to Granolah with volleys of attacks.
Super Saiyan God SS Evolved is one of the few techniques Goku cannot yet access. Yet, Vegeta gets his royal behind handed to him pretty soon by Granolah.
When Vegeta realized that he was nowhere near defeating his enemy and was severely pummelled, he left his Super Saiyan God SS Evolved form. He transformed into a brand new power-up, Ultra Ego.
Vegeta could attain this state simply because he was much closer to the God of Destruction’s mindset than anyone could be. This Ultra Ego form is much closer to Goku’s Ultra Instinct.
Vegeta is Training for a Superior Super Saiyan Transformation
Many fans claim that Vegeta’s Ultra Ego simply looks like another chase for Goku’s abilities. It seems too close to Ultra Instinct for comfort, and no one wants Vegeta to keep copying Goku forever.
On the other hand, Super Saiyan God SS Evolved is a transformation unique to Vegeta. It is an improvement upon Super Saiyan Blue and was first achieved by Vegeta. However, the evolved state goes far beyond the reach of its base level.
In fact, it might be possible that Vegeta is practicing to perfect the form even more. While Ultra Ego was the temporary solution to matching Goku and beating Black Frieza, it is not the long-term solution.
Ultra Ego is too close to Ultra Instinct for comfort, and it would look like Vegeta is trying to be Goku’s rival again. Developing Super Saiyan God SS Evolved is the best way for Vegeta to score a goal for himself and stop following Goku’s shadow.
Given that Goku can’t access this Vegeta-exclusive form, it is possible that he won’t have any command over future improvements of it either. So let’s wait and watch who really leaves the other in the dust.
