According to reliable Resident Evil and Silent Hill leaker Dusk Golem, also known as AesthethicGamer, a remake of Code Veronica and Resident Evil 0 is in development, while the long-awaited Resident Evil 9 is likely delayed by up to one year.
These two new remakes would follow suit after Capcom’s extremely strong current run, which includes both newer mainline titles as well as remakes of older, beloved games.
Resident Evil 0 and Code Veronica Are Reportedly Getting Remakes
The leak that remakes of Code Veronica and Resident Evil 0 are in development isn’t that surprising to hear, given that Capcom has previously shared that multiple new Resident Evil games are in development, which includes both remakes and new mainline installments.
Previously, Dusk Golem stated that Resident Evil 9 would be released the next year. It seems that development has hit a delay, and the game is postponed to either the end of 2025 or the summer of 2026.
As for Resident Evil 1 and 5, previous rumors pointed to both being in development, with Resident Evil 1 set to release in 2026 to mark the game and the franchise’s 30-year anniversary.
Wesker was also teased at the end of Resident Evil 4 Remake, leading into his role in the original Resident Evil 5, so it’s possible that these two games would be remade later down the line rather than immediately.
Everything We Know About Resident Evil 9
Resident Evil 9 is set to be the most ambitious game in the franchise and the first to feature an open world of some sort. The game has been in development since 2017, after the release of Resident Evil 7 and was originally meant to be the next mainline chapter. However, Resident Evil Village, which originally started as a spin-off to 7, was made the next mainline entry, pushing 9 back even further in development.
The protagonist for the game isn’t confirmed yet, not even through leakers; some have hinted that Leon Kennedy might be the protagonist of the prologue and maybe even the full game. His involvement, or lack thereof, can’t be guaranteed at this time. It will star a different character than Resident Evil 7 and Village’s Ethan Winters, as his story was completed in 8, and his daughter’s story was completed in the DLC for the game titled Shadows of Rose.
As for the setting, some leakers have hinted that it might be an Island somewhere in Southeast Asia. That definitely sounds intriguing and can be a pretty refreshing setting for an open-world Resident Evil game. The leaker also suggests not to get your hopes up for an announcement at either the Summer Game Fest or the playstation showcase this summer.
Keep in mind that all of these are just rumors at this point. Although leakers such as Dusk Golem have had a mostly reliable track record so far, don’t take these as confirmation and wait for any official announcements.
