The Call of Duty franchise is getting ready for another one of its yearly releases. With the return of Treyarch and its highly political storyline, fans are looking forward to Black Ops 6 later this year.
The series has gone under multiple changes and different iterations since 2003. As early as Call of Duty 2, the team at Infinity Ward were already changing things up for the better. In the end, that game added a feature fans likely forgot about.
Call of Duty 2 Revolutionized the Franchise Forever
![From 2005 to today, this feature remains a staple for the franchise.](https://fwmedia.fandomwire.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/05094655/Call-of-Duty-2-Key-Art-1024x576.png)
Before the first-person war shooter took over the multiplayer space, Call of Duty relied on its campaign mode to make sales. Giving players a story mode that’s fun, challenging, and rewarding.
To make the experience more accessible, difficulty modes were added to make sure everyone can play the game. In Call of Duty 2, the difficulty modes are Easy, Regular, Hardened, and Veteran. Players who were looking for a real challenge played it on Veteran, where nearly everything would one shot you and mistakes were punished heavily.
A key feature this game added to make gameplay more streamlined was the auto-regen system. Moving away from picking up health packs, the player would automatically regenerate its health after not taking damage for a period of time.

This made playing through Veteran mode easier because you can now hide behind cover before trying to take out enemies again. No more scrambling to find the nearest health pack as the auto regen would kick in after a short period.

Even though this feature received mixed reactions back in 2005, it’s a feature that’s remained consistent ever since.
What to Look Out For in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6
![We'll learn more very soon.](https://fwmedia.fandomwire.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/05094440/Call-of-Duty-Black-Ops-6-Key-Art-1024x576.jpg)
Treyarch’s return to the series is on the horizon. After a development cycle of four years, Black Ops 6 is the longest developed game in the franchise. The upcoming Xbox Games Showcase should unveil everything players want to know for this newest entry.
Auto regen is very likely to return but that doesn’t mean it’s guaranteed. Call of Duty games have changed this feature in certain ways throughout the years. Treyarch actually changed the rate at which players heal in Black Ops 4, making it much slower than before.
To heal faster, players would have to equip the Stim Shot to get back into the action quicker. This change as a whole received mixed reactions and became a must-have for competitive or casual play.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is scheduled to launch later this year. Learn more about the game on June 9, immediately after the Xbox Games Showcase presentation.
