The previous expansion, Lightfall, which launched last February, saw a lukewarm reception from fans, and player numbers have since dropped. That was also when the game recorded its all-time peak player count. But the player numbers again started going up in March this year as The Final Shape release date came near.
The expansion is now out, and fans are seemingly having a great time. A large number of players have taken to social media to share their thoughts about the campaign, and they are applauding it. Many have called The Final Shape the best campaign that developer Bungie has ever made and also praised the writing and emotions displayed in the story.
Finished The Final Shape campaign today: It's the best Destiny campaign Bungie has ever made, delivering a deeply emotional story with exceptional writing and dialogue.
As expected, Keith absolutely nailed it as Zavala. Really excited to see how it all ends in the Raid. pic.twitter.com/NVHOwHILbJ

The art direction and combat of the expansion are some of the big topics of discussion around the expansion. One player said that the expansion is “colorful, twisted, eerie, creepy, and beautiful all at the same time,” while another said that there is everything in the expansion and that it “pays off beautifully.”
The Final Shape campaign feels of enormous magnitude. I feel Bungie really nailed this one – vibes, story, level design, visuals, combat, sandbox, characters, music, stakes – it is all there, and everything pays off beautifully. I really enjoyed this.

Some fans, as usual, did have some problems with a few things, but the majority are impressed with what Bungie has delivered with the expansion. After recording the all-time peak of 316,750 concurrent players on Steam last year, the game has seen a concurrent peak of 314,634 players in the last 30 days, and it shows that the fans are happy with the way the expansion has turned out.
The Game Saw Server Issues With The Expansion Launch, but Bungie Is on It
![Players are praising the story and combat, among other things, in the expansion.](https://fwmedia.fandomwire.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/06044442/destiny-2-final-shape-server-1024x576.jpg)
The Final Shape saw major server issues upon launch as players rushed to log in and check out the campaign. Players reported error messages reading “the servers are not available” and that they were in queue for hours, and those who got in were unable to progress through the campaign.
While this has almost always been the issue with the game’s expansion launches, players were very annoyed at this, but soon after, Bungie issued an apology, said that it is working on fixing things, and also gave players some advice on how to go about fixing things.
It seems to have worked, as several players have now finished the campaign seemingly without issues. Players are all praising the expansion, and this proves that Bungie has been able to tackle all issues with servers.
