Will Smith and Martin Lawrence are back on the big screens as the iconic duo in Bad Boys‘ fourth installment and the fans are already mad over it. Bad Boys: Ride or Die continues the story of detectives Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett after the events of 2020’s Bad Boys for Life.
After the commercial and critical success of the 2020 flick, Bad Boys: Ride or Die was expected to produce similar results. Unfortunately, the critics’ ratings have not turned out to be as great as the audience score, and the fans are not pleased. They have taken over the internet to request the fans to trust the audience and check out the movie.
Bad Boys: Ride or Die creates a massive rift between the audience and the critics
Bad Boys: Ride or Die made its debut on the big screens with a 66% Critics Rating and an impressive 98% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes (via The Hollywood Handle). Compared to the 2020 Bad Boys film, the latest Will Smith feature has seen a significant dip in the critics’ score.
When it comes to Hollywood summer blockbusters, we can often spot a notable difference between the critical and the audience’s reception. Big-screen popcorn entertainers like the recently released Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire are criticized a bit too harshly by the critics. However, the Bad Boys fans have been vocal about the issue and asked the audience to not trust the critics’ score.
Although Bad Boys for Life was praised by the critics, the latest installment has seen a mixed or average critical reaction. Opposite to the fans, who described it as a fun big-screen spectacle and even an improvement to the third part, the critics have commented that the plot and the action scenes are highly nonsensical.
Will Smith fans ask moviegoers to trust the audience score
Will Smith lost several big projects after his highly controversial Slap incident at the 2022 Academy Awards. Bad Boys: Ride or Die is a significant project for the Oscar-winning actor to get back his lost fame. While the critics’ score showed a concerning report for the film, the fans praised it as a successful summer blockbuster and asked everyone to not focus on the critics’ score.
Let’s take a look at some tweets by the fans:
Trust the audience.

I straight up believe the audience over the critics they have these days. This looks like a great popcorn flick.

Director duo Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah returned to the director’s seat for Bad Boys: Ride or Die. This installment focused on the detective duo going on a quest to clear out their late Captain, Conrad Howard’s name from a false allegation.
Bad Boys for Life earned around $426 million (see Box Office Mojo) and became the highest-grossing title in the franchise. The Hollywood Reporter predicts that the action comedy can take an opening of $40 to $50 million. Bad Boys: Ride or Die‘s budget is $100 million. It will be exciting to see if the predictions are true and if Will Smith makes an electrifying comeback at the box office.
