Carrie Fisher Shared That Harrison Ford Didn’t Really ‘Know’ Her Early Into Their Relationship
Carrie Fisher‘s revelation about her affair with Harrison Ford became public before her memoir, The Princess Diarist, was released. She shared more details about what she had written in her book in an interview with The Guardian. Fisher never thought that Ford fancied her romantically during their initial interaction in Star Wars.
Fisher shared that she was an insecure girl who had only had one boyfriend before Ford. For Fisher, the relationship was much more serious than it was for Ford. She did not blame Ford nor did she believe that he took advantage of her. She explained that Ford had a very different perception of her because she had deliberately shown him a very different version of her.
The Indiana Jones actor believed that Fisher was this confident and experienced girl in a relationship. Fisher added that when Ford understood that he had gotten the wrong idea of her, he behaved accordingly. Fisher shared with The Guardian:
I was shocked by the fact that he fancied me. I was a very insecure girl and had only had one boyfriend. […] He perceived me as this very confident, experienced girl. I don’t think he had all the information! And when he got it, he behaved accordingly, and he didn’t have to do that.
Fisher revealed that when Ford understood the real her he softened a bit in their affair for the remainder of the film. She also shared that she knew their relationship wouldn’t last much longer. However, she did feel at the time that Ford did not really care for her during the relationship.
It worsened her insecurities. She believed that some of them could have been caused by her bipolar condition, which she was diagnosed with later.
Harrison Ford May Not Have Been Happy With Carrie Fisher’s Revelation
Carrie Fisher knew that Harrison Ford hated making his private life public. When she decided to reveal her affair publicly in her memoir, she had told him about it. She shared with him that she was willing to remove any part that he didn’t like. However, when she later sent the book to him, she revealed that she never heard back from Ford. Fisher shared with The Guardian:
I told him I was writing the book, and I would give it to him and if he didn’t like anything in it I would take it out, and he seemed surprised at that. Then I called him and said I’m going to send it to you, and I did and I never heard from him.
During another interview with NPR a few days later, Fisher shared that she regretted her decision to reveal the affair. She shared that she felt like she had ambushed Ford with the revelation. Fisher shared that she didn’t expect this secret to cause such a stir even after years. Unfortunately, she passed away just weeks after the book was published.
