No, the number of episodes is not confirmed. But, what’s confirmed is that our beloved heist franchise (or more particularly the first movie) might just be rebooted as a limited TV series.
Although fans might be tired of these countless reboots, the Ocean’s Eleven movie could be rebooted into an actually well-curated story. That’s what Channing Dungey, the chairman and CEO of Warner Bros. Television Group said at the Banff World Media Festival recently.
As per a report by Deadline, the chairman talked about several movies that could potentially be remade into a TV series. While talking about these films, she gave the name of Ocean’s Eleven as an example. However, it doesn’t seem like the example was just a coincidence!
I think about things like Ocean’s Eleven, for example. That kind of a caper film, which is a great two-hour romp and what we might be able to do with that in sort of a limited series format, things like that might be kind of fun.
However, there’s a slight catch.
But there are just so many titles that it’s really more about someone walking into the office with a perspective or a point of view, or this is why we should do this in this way. It’s not like there’s one title that I’m like, ‘Oh, I can’t wait to dust it off.’
This catch, however, might work in the favor of Brad Pitt as Ocean’s Eleven already feels like a film in which further stories can be told. The alleged TV series would be a limited series and could shatter records in comparison to modern streaming series.
Further fuel to the fire can be added by the fact that George Clooney once revealed that he has plans for a sequel and that it is a good script. Well, even if the limited TV series were to be made, there’s just no way that OG director Steven Soderbergh will return to the franchise.
George Clooney Has Plans For A Sequel!
With alleged plans for a limited TV series, it seems that a good script has already been made and veteran actor George Clooney is also quite excited about it. While in an interview, Clooney mentioned that the plans for a sequel are already in motion.
During an interview with Uproxx, Clooney talked about how he wants to return to the franchise once more. With rumors and speculation around, here’s what the Batman and Robin actor had to say about a potential sequel.
We have a really good script for another Oceans now, so we may end up doing another one. It’s actually a great script.
Although Clooney is excited about the idea, veteran director Steven Soderbergh, who directed the first three films, has some disappointing news for fans. In an interview with Variety, here’s what Soderbergh had to say about him rejoining the franchise.
After we made the third movie, I felt like the series was very much concluded for me. When the studio approached me to see if I’d be involved in continuing the franchise, I told them no, because it just doesn’t feel like a move forward for me. I’m chasing something else.
As much as the world would love a rebooted TV series based on Ocean’s Eleven, there is no way to confirm or deny these rumors at the moment.
Ocean’s Eleven earned a rating of 7.7/10 on IMDB and a whopping 83% on Rotten Tomatoes upon its release and earned a whopping $450 million at the global box office (via IMDB).
