The horror franchise A Quiet Place is getting a video game adaptation, A Quiet Place: The Road Ahead. This single-player experience looks to capture the essence of the films, but there’s one element that could make it even better: the ability to read your mic’s inputs.
John Krasinski’s movie terrified audiences with its very interesting premise: a world overrun by blind creatures with hypersensitive hearing. The silence became the characters’ only way to survive.
A Quiet Place: The Road Ahead Is Based on the Hit Movie Series
A Quiet Place: The Road Ahead focuses on a young survivor navigating the post-apocalyptic world. While a single-player horror story offers a deep dive into one character’s journey, it can’t replicate the raw tension of actual silence when you’re scared. Imagine a mode where players need to have their voices muted, relying solely on verbal silence to survive. Every other type of noise inputted through the mic could become a potential disaster, forcing players to be extremely quiet.
they gotta add a mode where your mic is on

Think of playing a game where every sound you make could mean life or death for your character. That’s the kind of immersion we’re talking about with a mic-enabled mode. Your in-game actions and survival depend on how quiet you can be in real life. Whisper too loudly, sneeze, or even breathe heavily, and the game picks it up, alerting the nearby creatures to your presence.
The pressure would be immense. A cough picked up by the microphone could spell doom for the player. This “mic-on” mode would transform the game from a typical horror experience into a heart-pounding survival game.
When you know that every sound you make could give away your location, the level of immersion increases by a lot. You’ll find yourself holding your breath, literally, as you navigate through the game, trying to stay as silent as possible.
Another Game From 2020 Has Done Something Similar Before
This concept is not entirely new. Games like Phasmophobia from 2020 have experimented with voice recognition, where players’ voices can attract or alter in-game enemies. However, A Quiet Place: The Road Ahead could take this to a whole new level by making sound an integral part of the gameplay mechanics.
Unlike traditional games, where you can scream at your screen without any repercussions, this mode would force you to behave as if you were actually in the game. It blurs the line between the virtual world and reality, making every sound matter and making the game all that much better.
Playing with friends would become even more intense. Imagine a multiplayer/co-op mode where all players’ mics are on. The panic of trying to stay quiet together would lead to some unforgettable gaming moments and plenty of fun.
While the idea of a mic-enabled mode is exciting, there are a few potential issues to consider. For starters, background noise could pose a problem. If you’re playing in a noisy environment, it could unfairly affect your gameplay. Developers would need to implement sophisticated sound recognition algorithms to differentiate between player sounds and ambient noise.
The game is being developed by Stormind Games and published by Saber Interactive for PC and current-gen consoles. No release window has been confirmed as of yet.
