Shadow of the Erdtree is officially here and the gaming community is blown away with how FromSoftware matched the greatness of the base game. Fans of the Soulsborne franchise are in for a treat with this massive expansion and hardcore fans spot something interesting and familiar.
There is no shortage of easter eggs and references to previous games made by FromSoftware in this expansion and there is one that stood out and caught the gaming community by surprise. The director is a clever man and knows how to tease his fans in the best way possible.
Shadow of the Erdtree Has One Easter Egg That Sent Fans to a Frenzy

The gaming community has been begging the director to develop a sequel to Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice after reaching in impressive milestone, but managed to slip in a quick blink and you’ll miss it easter egg in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree. It is a common practice by the studio to include references to honor previous projects but this easter egg could pave the way for a sequel to see the light of day.

Hidetaka Miyazaki also has a habit of picking things from older games and reusing them for future projects, the developers reflected and took some inspiration and improved the level design for the expansion inspired by Sekiro. It may not be a direct sequel but fans will be pleased to see the game honored in a way that feels cathartic and earned.
Perhaps the gaming community should take this as a win and place their faith more cautiously in the future. Others may gain false hope and take this easter egg as a sign from the developers subtly hinting at a sequel and should learn from the Déraciné incident where players believed a Bloodborne sequel was in the works which was never the case and the easter egg found was the studio’s way to honor it.
Director Hidetaka Miyazaki Needs to Go Easy With the Easter Eggs

The developers knew the expectations were high given the successful reception of Elden Ring, and wanted to give the gaming community a worthy follow-up and succeeded spectacularly. The expansion was reported to be equal in size with the base game and the director wanted to encourage the players to discover and explore the uncharted territories of the Land of Shadow and carve their paths.
The gaming community fell in love with the Soulslike genre because it helped build their character in real life. Miyazaki designed his games to be insanely hard not to dissuade the players from pressing forward but to motivate them to do better.
One player did not let his fragile condition stop him from playing the expansion and played Shadow of the Erdtree on his hospital bed which most likely played a significant hand in his quick recovery, no pun intended.
Easter eggs are not meant to generate hope for a sequel but other developers use them to honor what came before to embrace the present. There may be hope for a Sekiro sequel but fans shouldn’t hold their breaths.
