The Assassin’s Creed franchise needs no reintroduction. Since its debut in the mid-2000s, it has taken players into detailed historical eras, letting them embody assassins from various cultures. Ezio Auditore, the Florentine assassin stole the hearts of gamers and has become the core part of the franchise’s success story.
Even as Ubisoft has explored numerous other historical periods and new protagonists over different creeds, Ezio’s epic saga seen in Assassin’s Creed II, Brotherhood, and Revelations remains a fan favorite. Now, with CEO Yves Guillemot confirming several Assassin’s Creed remakes, fans are concerned about Ezio’s story and don’t want much reimagined.
Ezio Auditore’s Assassin’s Creed Story
Assassin’s Creed fans saw the Rennesaince Italy through Ezio’s eyes in 2009. His trilogy continued with Brotherhood and Revelations in 2010 and 2011 leading players to Spain and Ottoman Empire as well.
During these adventures, players saw the character’s growth from a beginner to a mentor assassin all while seeking revenge on those who killed his family. Many fans consider the story arc to be near-perfect.
It is not just the story but also the gameplay that is been held in high regard. The game perfected everything seen in the original and brought those over-the-top animations everyone loves even today.
However, with Ubisoft announcing older remakes, fans worry that this will destroy Ezio’s legacy, and the sentiment, ‘don’t fix what isn’t broken’ is palpable in social media comments.
Fans Have a Strong Opinion on Assassin’s Creed Remakes
Social media is already brimming with fan reactions about the news. While they respect the efforts, the desire for a remake is purely based on a graphical overhaul.
They want refined game mechanics and graphics fidelity and nothing more.
Unfortunately, one fan said that knowing how the developer is treating remakes he is fearing changes to the story and characters.
While the publisher wants to modernize beloved classics, this isn’t a confirmation we will ever see these past titles remade. Remember all the talk about the Prince of Persia: Sands of Time?
Ubisoft doesn’t have a rich history of successful remakes. Instead of the full-fledged remake, fans can treat themselves to the remastered Ezio collection and jump into the enhanced adventure.
Moreover, the franchise is very much alive with new games launching soon, including the highly-anticipated Shadows, and the controversial and mysterious Assassin’s Creed: Codename Hexe.
Whether a full remake of Ezio’s adventure comes to life and will they capture the essence of the peak games and present it in modern graphic fidelity? What are your thoughts? Let us know in the comments below.
