The Star Wars franchise aims to move past the Skywalker saga with the upcoming film starring Daisy Ridley. After leading the cast for the sequel trilogy, Ridley is expected to reprise her role as Rey Skywalker in a new film that will follow her attempts to rebuild the Jedi order. The yet-untitled film was expected to start filming later this year.

A new report indicates that the film is in massive jeopardy and its road to production might not be as clear. Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight is currently attached as a writer to the project. However, Knight’s involvement might not be enough to save the film from turning out to be a disaster. Here are all the latest updates you need to know about Daisy Ridley’s upcoming Star Wars movie.
Daisy Ridley’s New Star Wars Movie Reportedly Not Starting Production Anytime Soon
Actress Daisy Ridley is known for playing the role of Rey in the sequel trilogy of Star Wars movies produced under Kathleen Kennedy’s leadership. In April 2023, Ridley was officially announced to be reprising her role in a new Star Wars film, with Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy serving as the director.

It was expected to start filming in September 2024. However, according to a new report, the film is reportedly in jeopardy and it is unlikely that production will start this year. The report also indicated that there is behind-the-scenes drama at Lucasfilm that has currently halted the development of the project.
However, the report confirmed that screenwriter Steven Knight was still attached to the project. While Knight had submitted several drafts, he continued to allegedly receive feedback from Kennedy. Therefore, a final draft of the script had not been locked just yet. As a result, it is easy to understand why the report claims that the Ridley-led film is being delayed.
Peaky Blinders Creator Steven Knight May Not be Enough to Save Star Wars

Damon Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson were earlier working on the screenplay for the yet-untitled movie. However, after the duo’s exit, Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight was announced as screenwriter in March 2023. In April 2024, Knight provided an update on his screenplay for the movie.
It’s going well, yes. But yes, I am getting [into] that universe and it’s a wonderful universe. I love it.
Knight made the above statement during an interview with NME. Hence, it is safe to say that Knight did not complete a final draft for the movie at least by April 2024. As a result, the aforementioned report suggesting that Knight was still working on the screenplay sounds credible.
The report also indicated that the film’s focus on a female protagonist might be one of the stumbling blocks in its path. Therefore, it seems like Kennedy and Lucasfilm’s agenda-driven approach to films in the Star Wars universe is set to continue and even Knight might not be able to save the franchise despite his glowing screenwriting career. The untitled Rey Skywalker movie currently does not have a release date.
