God of War fans are stuck in an argument regarding the most powerful enemy that is often overlooked when talking about the game, and it is a surprise no one brought this into discussion until recently.

One of the initial villains of the latest God of War titles is arguably one of the most powerful enemies in the game, according to some fans, whereas others feel the hype surrounding it to be unnecessary. However, this enemy does hold an edge over some of the lesser enemies in the games with an interesting background.

God of War ventured from Greek to Norse Mythology for its latest two titles, with some of the most interesting enemies no one expected to see in the game and one of those enemies was probably the most empathized with due to his tragic past.

The most powerful enemy, according to some fans, is Baldur, who was introduced in God of War 2018 as one of the first enemies Kratos encounters and fails to defeat. However, the fight comes to full circle as Baldur returns towards the end of the game, where he is finally defeated by Kratos, and he reveals his tragic past to him.

Baldur is the son of Freya and Odin, who was cursed, according to him, by his mother Freya who cast a spell on him, making him invulnerable to any major or minor damage or injuries to prevent him from dying a needless death.

However, this was not taken well by him, and he started despising the fact that he had become incapable of feeling things, which sowed a seed of hatred in his heart against his mother, who had nothing but good intentions for her son.

Baldur eventually succumbed to the injuries given to him by the mighty god killer Kratos, which soured his relationship with Freya by extension.

Arguably The Most Powerful But Not Quite There

Baldur is still considered by some to not be as powerful as some of the other villains in the franchise, as the game has had some of the most powerful gods showering their powers upon Kratos, among whom Baldur looks a little meek.

However, not everyone agrees with the same and gives a different perspective on the matter.

Some of the other enemies, like Thor with his great strength, Odin with his mastery over sorcery, and Zeus with his all-mighty power, easily surpass the strength of Baldur, as he is a result of pity and ego without any honor to back him up.
