They would work together again on the Woody Allen film, Vicky Cristina Barcelona, and started dating. Bardem and Cruz have been married since 2010 but Bardem thinks that their marriage doesn’t make any sense.
As they celebrate their 14th year of marriage this coming Saturday, fans can think of a few reasons why their relationship does make sense. The couple have two children—Leo Encinas Cruz born in 2011 and Luna Encinas Cruz born in 2013.
Javier Bardem Shares A Humble Thought On His Marriage To Penélope Cruz
Javier Bardem and Penélope Cruz are one of the power couples of Hollywood, leading a beautiful life while also giving Oscar-worthy performances. During an appearance on The Late Show to promote his film, Being the Ricardos, Bardem talked about his beautiful wife Cruz. When Colbert brought her up during the interview, Bardem shared that their relationship didn’t make any sense. Bardem didn’t know why the most beautiful creature on earth would fall for “that guy”. Bardem shared:
[It] doesn’t make any sense. I see the picture and I think what is this beautiful creature on earth doing with that guy?
When Colbert shared that he could think of a few reasons, Bardem replied that the host was just being very kind. However, fans too shared Colbert’s view on this marriage. When the clip was shared on Instagram via @thisismoviemaniacs, fans dropped in some kind comments on the couple’s relationship.
One fan shared that Bardem’s humbleness was the reason why Cruz is probably the happiest married woman. Another fan shared that both Bardem and Cruz are supremely talented and a true power couple with great chemistry. One fan shared that Bardem has no idea about how attractive and kind he is. He is too gorgeous, very modest and a brilliant actor! Penelope Cruz is a wonderful actress herself, both are supremely talented! True power couple means them, great chemistry and God bless this sensational couple, made for each other for sure.

I think she is “with that guy” because of how kind, sweet, loving, loyal, supportive husband and father you are to her and your children.

Cruz and Bardem have largely kept their private life under the radar, with even their wedding taking place in a low-profile setting. They exchanged vows in a private ceremony that took place at a friend’s home in the Bahamas in 2010.
Javier Bardem Says Working With His Wife Felt Weird
Javier Bardem shared with Stephen Colbert that working with Penélope Cruz felt weird. He explained that when they were filming Loving Pablo, they were playing a troublesome relationship and some of the scenes were dramatic and hard. When they got back to their children after filming, all the tension from the film made things weird at home.
Bardem recalled that there was a day when he was sent to sleep on the couch since Cruz couldn’t see past his character due to his mustache. Bardem concluded, “You can enjoy that, but as long as you don’t do it too often.” Bardem was also applauded for shutting down a reporter who asked him how he felt about being the only man who enjoyed working with his wife (via AFP News Agency).
Being the Ricardos is now available for streaming on Prime Video.
