In the Gears of War franchise, people can’t seem to decide what exactly is that “disappointing level” that they would change or erase.

Not to say there are too many of them, but people come at this with completely different perspectives and preferences, so it’s interesting to see the variety of answers given.

For the OP that incited this intriguing debate, they named the Corpser battle from the first Gears game, and with reason. There’s a significant build-up for the fight throughout the first half of the game.

After shedding blood, sweat, and tears to finally reach Act 3 and confront this “several stories tall” monstrosity of death, all you do to take it down is should its belly a couple of times until you break the floor underneath it.

OP had played the second and third Gears game way earlier than the first one, so they had big expectations as to how it would be.

To add insult to injury, the fight goes so fast that you can defeat the Corpser before Wretches start spawning 30 seconds into the level.

With so many expectations for Gears of War: E-Day, one can hope The Coalition doesn’t repeat mistakes. The Corpser battle wasn’t the only answer given. One reply named the Skorge fight from Gears of War 2.

Similar to the Corpser encounter, it was incredibly hyped up until the actual fight, where mashing ‘B’ would guarantee smooth sailing.

On the flip side, fighting RAAM was incredibly difficult and memorable, whether you did it solo or in co-op.

No doubt, that would be a fight to remember for many people, especially if you played the game when you were younger.

Some players brought up that level in the second Gears of War, where you use the Grindlift during Operation: Hollow Storm.

Expecting a massive battle, we instead got the usual Marcus and Co. vs. Locust swarms. However, it might not have been possible with the Xbox 360’s hardware at the time anyway.
