Since Assassin’s Creed debuted way back in 2007, fans have been clamoring for a game set in Feudal Japan. Well, almost two decades later, those fans finally got their wishes with the upcoming game in the series, Assassin’s Creed Shadows.
Since the game’s initial everyone, it has grabbed everyone’s attention in the industry. It’s certainly looking to be a title that’s going to define the year for many gamers. However, the way Ubisoft is experimenting with an unexpected method of release, which was last seen with Skull and Bones, the upcoming Assassin’s Creed game could reach new heights.

There’s no doubt that Skull and Bones saw quite a fair share of complications while in development. The plan for the title changed way too many times, and following its full release in February 2024, the game was a mess that couldn’t reach the success the publisher had hoped.
Despite the game’s failure, it experimented with various things that gamers had completely forgotten about. One of these was selling physical PC versions of the game! In this digital era, this is completely unheard of!
The publisher made the physical sales of the PC version even more special by bringing a special cardboard edition to select countries.
As reported by GameFile, the company is exploring this method of game releases again, and given the hype around Assassin’s Creed Shadows, there’s a high chance we could see a physical PC release in environmentally friendly cardboard packaging.
Gamers in the community are surprised that out of all gaming companies, Ubisoft is taking such initiatives towards the betterment of the environment and saving the physical release culture.
Physical PC releases in cardboard packaging can be pretty beneficial for gaming companies due to their overall cost-effectiveness. With such packaging, Ubisoft could easily customize it and offer different versions based on Yasuke and Naoe that could appeal to collectors who are desperate for more physical releases of games.
