Ubisoft’s highly-awaited pirate adventure title Skull and Bones and Rocksteady Studios’ highly-anticipated Suicide Squad game have has a few things in common. Both the titles released this year are live-service games, were delayed multiple times, and have been failures.

Both titles bombed at launch and have faced backlash from fans. The titles have also seen a decline in player count and sales, but as per the recent data, it seems like Skull and Bones may be doing much worse than Rocksteady’s Kill the Justice League in one way.

As per recent data, Kill the Justice League was released on February 2, 2024, and debuted in first place on PlayStation, but it soon fell off the list, thanks to its technical issues as well as the lackluster gameplay. However, the pirate title has performed much worse. The game was in the top 10 most-played games on PlayStation upon release last month and has slowly dropped down.

The game’s player count has declined since its release, and despite the publisher claiming that the game garnered approximately 850,000 lifetime players only after a week of its release, it doesn’t seem to be doing well.

Additionally, PlayStation’s February 2024 sales data shows that Rocksteady’s title is the third highest-selling game of the month on PlayStation 5 in the US/Canada region, only behind the latest releases, Helldivers 2 and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, and is on the 8th spot in the EU region.

However, Skull and Bones is eighth on the list in the US/Canada region, even behind Grand Theft Auto 5, which was released over a decade ago, and is at the seventh spot in the EU region behind GTA 5 and Call of Duty: MW3. This proves that the “AAAA” game has fallen flat and not many players are interested in it, even though it is inspired by one of the best Assassin’s Creed titles, Black Flag.

The Game Has Been a Bigger Failure on Xbox

The game is not even in the top10 most played games on PlayStation.
The game is not even in the top 10 most-played games on Xbox.

The game was in the top 50 in its launch week on Xbox and was ranked the 30th most played game for the week ending February 19. Then there has been a regular decline in player numbers. The week after February 19, the game was in 37th place, and it was in 47th place on March 9, 2024.

However, it has now fallen out of the top 50 most-played games on Xbox. The player numbers for the game on PC are not known, but seeing how the game has performed on other platforms, it would be doing similarly on PC as well.

Rocksteady’s title has peaked at 735 players in the last 24 hours and has nearly 300 players on PC at the time of writing, so it wouldn’t be wrong to say that Skull and Bones may be near that number as well.
