Dwayne Johnson has successfully dabbled dual careers as a professional wrestler in WWE and is one of the A-list movie stars in Hollywood. The actor’s star power and large fanbase made him a bankable name in the industry. Audiences recently got to see an unhinged version of The Rock leading up to WrestleMania XL.
Johnson is known for his extensive training at the gym and has a massive physique. The man is always physically ripped in every project and has a towering presence in every frame he appears in. His bulky physique caused a real problem for the costume designer for his Netflix film Red Notice, who had to arrange multiple suits, especially for him.
Dwayne Johnson’s Herculean Physique Led To A Special Costume Arrangement On Red Notice
Dwayne Johnson has starred in some of the biggest films in Hollywood, featuring in popular franchises like Fast and Furious, G.I Joe, the DC Universe, and Jumanji. His immense star power and reputation in the industry are unprecedented and many studios love having the superstar in their projects as he always grabs many eyeballs.
Johnson starred in one of Netflix’s most expensive productions with the 2021 action comedy film Red Notice where he starred alongside Ryan Reynolds and Gal Gadot. The lavish and stylish actioner had the stars wearing some great costumes and they had to perform some action sequences in suits that were custom-made in Italy by famed costume designer Mary Vogt.
In an interview with Netflix Tudum, Vogt revealed that Johnson liked his clothes to be really fitted, but his bulky physique was a cause of concern as it would easily tear the costume during the action sequences. Thus, Vogt made sure that the production had at least eight suits for Johnson in case something unwanted happened during the shoot. She said,
Dwayne [Johnson], if he wanted to, could rip the clothes apart just flexing his muscles. So, for Dwayne, we had at least eight suits. We were worried because they were custom-made in Italy by Brioni, it took forever, and I thought, “If something happens, we can’t get another one in a hurry.
The three stars carried the film with their charisma and hilarious banter. However, the film’s underwhelming premise and execution made it a typical star-studded Netflix fare. Two sequels to the film have been announced with the three stars and director Rawson Marshall Thurber set to return.
Dwayne Johnson Advises Audiences To Rewatch Red Notice To Realize Its Clever Narrative
In 2021’s Red Notice, Dwayne Johnson‘s FBI agent teams up with a con artist played by Ryan Reynolds to catch the elusive art thief played by Gal Gadot. Halfway through the film, Johnson and Gadot participate in a tango dance sequence where the two share some certain information which does not seem all that important at first.
However, the big twist that happens later is that Johnson was working with Gadot all along and had doubled crossed everyone in their path. In an interview with Netflix Tudum, Johnson revealed that audiences will have a new meaning with the dance sequence once they rewatch the film after knowing the twist. They will realize the psychological chess being played by the two characters throughout the film. He said,
What made it uniquely fun is that, upon the second, third, and fourth viewing of Red Notice, when you go back to the dance sequence, that’s when you’ll catch nuances. We did the dance knowing that there [were] actually two sides to every movement. There was the A-side that you see when you first see the movie before you see the twist, and then the B-side, when you watch it back and [get] what that dance actually means. A little bit of psychological chess there.
Owing to the success of the film, the announced sequels will be shot back to back. Johnson is meanwhile shooting for his upcoming sports drama film The Smashing Machine, and Reynolds is currently promoting Deadpool & Wolverine. Fans can watch their hilarious banter in Red Notice on Netflix.
