Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania was supposed to be the saving grace of the Marvel Cinematic Universe after a disappointing Phase 4. While fans had a ton of hope that Phase 5’s first film would redeem the superhero universe, things didn’t quite go according to plan. Except for a few elements here and there, Ant-Man 3 failed to impress the audience and has a low rating of 46% on Rotten Tomatoes.

One thing that many fans enjoyed, though, was the scene where Paul Rudd’s Scott Lang encounters a probability storm and meets multiple versions of himself, including one that works at Baskin Robbins.

There was a time when this scene had another storyline attached to it which showed Evangeline Lilly’s Hope Pym having a son who was played by child actor Lucas Grant. Unfortunately, the scene was left out of the final cut of the film but that doesn’t mean young Lucas Grant didn’t have a good time on the set.

Lucas Grant has been a part of a handful of projects including the horror film Five Nights at Freddy’s which was released last year. However, this wasn’t supposed to be the only 2023 movie the young actor played a role in.

While details about his contribution to Ant-Man 3 remain behind curtains, Grant’s mother posted an adorable message for her son on his Instagram, managed by his parents. A day after the release of the film, Grant’s mother posted a series of photos on Instagram from the set of Ant-Man 3.

In a couple of the photos, Grant can be seen standing with Evangeline Lilly who was supposed to be playing his mother. In another, the child actor was posing with director Peyton Reed and giving an adorable thumbs-up to the camera.

Grant’s mother captioned the post,

Mom Post: Last year Lucas had the supremely cool experience of working on his first movie…and a Marvel movie at that! He played Wasp/Hope’s son in Antman & The Wasp Quantumania, and had so much fun working with Evangeline (sweetest human on earth!). Peyton, the Director, is also incredibly nice and Lucas had an amazing time working with everyone on the film!

She then went on to add that Grant was cut from the film after the storyline got tweaked a bit. However, she made sure to clarify that regardless of the outcome, Grant was extremely grateful for the opportunity and had a great time on set.

Unfortunately, as it sometimes happens, the storyline was changed after he filmed and his scenes did not make it into the final version of the movie.Regardless, Lucas is so grateful for the experience! He had the time of his life, and has memories to treasure forever of his first movie!

It would have been a treat to see that adorable face in the film but fate had other plans.

Screenwriter Blames the Cut on Shoddy Writing

The story of Ant-Man 3 was written by Jeff Loveness and he once opened up about cutting Grant out of the film.

When Loveness appeared for an interview with IGN, he was asked to comment about the post made by Grant’s mother and clarify what had actually happened behind the scenes.

The writer admitted that all of it was mostly his fault. He revealed that there was a lot more to the probability storm scene initially and of course, Grant was supposed to be a part of it.

But soon, Loveness realized that it was shoddy writing and decided to cut most of it out which unfortunately included the young actor’s scenes. The writer hopes Grant’s agent didn’t get too mad at him for something that wasn’t his fault.

Oh, yeah. And it’s my fault. I think it just didn’t fit in the flow of what we were doing. There was more of that probability storm scene where Scott had all the multiplications and the Schrodinger’s cat thing. There was more of a psychological element to it too, in earlier scripts, which was really cool. But… it’s on me. I think it just seemed a little disjointed.

There was more story of where Kang was going to explain what you’re walking into and what you’re seeing. But it’s on me. I feel bad for the kid. Sorry. I hope his agent wasn’t screaming at him that he really fucked his career. It was me. It’s my shoddy writing.

Perhaps if Grant’s scenes were kept in Ant-Man 33, they could have been a means of redemption for the film after the disappointing treatment of Jonathan Majors’ Kang. After watching the movie, fans had one big complaint from the writers. A majority of the audience was confused as to why Kang was shown to be weaker in the movie than they had expected and blamed Marvel Studios for diluting the villain that was supposed to be MCU’s next big threat.
