Demon Slayer season 4 concluded after the Hashiras and Tanjiro’s group entered the Infinity Castle. The next season will feature the all-out battle of the Hashiras against the Demons. The fans are pretty excited with how the animation and plot turned out. But those who have read the manga will know that even though it was a happy ending for the young Demon Slayers, most of the Hashiras did not make it alive out of the Infinity Castle.

It may come as a shock to many but the only two Hashiras who made it out alive were Sanemi Shinazugawa and Tomioka Giyu. While most fans think it to be a consequence of the Demon Slayer mark, a recent fan theory has put up another point apart from the Demon Slayer mark. The fan theory speaks of how Tanjiro Kamado lives with a Demon Slayer mark if anyone who unlocks the mark would die before the age of 25.

Sun Breathing Helped Tanjiro Kamado With A Long Life

When a Demon Slayer unlocks the Demon Slayer mark, they are supposed to die before the age of 25. It is one of the curses that come along the enhanced abilities. By the Infinity Castle arc, every Hashira had accessed their Demon Slayer mark. However, there is a controversy as to why Tanjiro Kamado lived a long and happy life even though he was the one to awaken it first. It is where the fan theory points out that Tanjiro was the second Demon Slayer to unlock the mark and live a long life.

The first one was Yoriichi Tsugikuni. He might have been able to do it due to his immense strength. On the other hand, Tanjiro had the Hanafuda Earrings, which were passed down in his family. It was Yoriichi’s gift to the Kamado family. Apart from that, the young protagonist also knew Sun Breathing and used it while fighting the Demons. Only Sun Breathers do not fall under the mark’s curse. It also justifies Yoriichi’s long life.

The fan theory also claims the other Hashiras did not use or know about Sun Breathing. On top of that, they forced the mark upon themselves after having a near-death experience and reaching a higher body temperature. It was all so sudden without any practice or knowledge about it. Even though Tanjiro experienced the same, he saw and knew Sun Breathing and had the Hanafuda earrings, which might have played a part in sustaining him in the long run.

Not All Hashiras Die In Demon Slayer

While most of the Hashiras die trying to defeat the Demons, Sanemi Shinazugawa and Tomioka Giyu come out alive. But they unlocked the Demon Slayer mark against Kokushibo and Akaza, respectively. During the final arc, they were 21 years old, so they had four years before they died. Since none of the survival criteria was fulfilled by them, they were doomed to die. On the other hand, Uzui Tengen is the only Hashira to have a long life with his three wives.

Even though he fought an Upper Moon, he never unlocked his mark. Losing his hand during the fight was not enough to get him to experience the fear of death. While the fan theory seems pretty viable and covers most of the points, it is still a fan theory. Until Koyoharu Gotouge decides to reveal the secrets or confirms the fan theory to be correct, nothing can be taken as the truth.

Demon Slayer is available on Crunchyroll.
