However, she shared that as soon as she started filming with Hugh Jackman, it was as if eight years hadn’t passed after Logan. Keen also had to lie a lot when she was asked about her appearance in the film during her promotion for The Acolyte. She shared that she took inspiration from Andrew Garfield to answer the questions dishonestly.

After months of speculation around her appearance, Dafne Keen is confirmed to appear as Laura Kinney in Deadpool & Wolverine. In the recent final trailer for the film, she was seen having an intense moment with Hugh Jackman. Keen had been lying about her appearance for a long time.

She appeared as Wolverine’s surrogate daughter who was being chased by a secret organization in Logan. Jackman’s character sacrifices himself to protect her in what was supposed to be his last film in the X-Men franchise. Keen shared that ever since that film, she was hoping to return to an X-Men film.

When Disney purchased 20th Century Fox, her hopes for a comeback almost ended. However, Deadpool & Wolverine brought back some hope to her and she revealed to Entertainment Weekly that her agent had been negotiating in secret for a month until she landed the role.

The news excited her, but she felt a little nervous when she got to set. She doubted whether she could pull off X-23 with the same feral intensity that she did as a 11-year-old kid. Keen shared with EW:

I immediately screamed. I dropped my phone in the bath. I had to put it in rice; it was a whole thing. […] I was a bit freaked out. I was like, ‘I will have forgotten how to play her. She’s not in me anymore.’

Keen revealed that the film went for a pretty intense scene with Jackman for her first shot. When the film started rolling, the His Dark Materials star felt like “we were back doing Logan.” She added, “It was like eight years hadn’t passed.” It is yet to be seen whether she’ll fight Cassandra Nova and her league of supervillains alongside Jackman’s Wolverine.

Dafne Keen had to promote her Disney+ show The Acolyte during the last few months and she was asked about her Deadpool & Wolverine role everywhere. Keen had to outright lie about her participation like when she told OnDemandEntertainment, “It would have been amazing to be a part of it, but I’ll just go watch it as a fan…”

During her EW interview, she shared that keeping the secret was fun. She shared she got inspired by Andrew Garfield who denied his appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home during interviews before the film. She shared:

I had a great time keeping it secret. I had to do a bunch of press for a job [The Acolyte] that I just finished. I got asked in every interview, and I just got to lie, which was really funny. All the inspo comes from Andrew Garfield. He is the master at this.

Marvel scooper @CanWeGetToast had an interesting theory about the possible interaction between her character X-23 and Wolverine. The theory shared that Laura Kinney would explain what happened to Logan in her timeline to the Wolverine variant in Deadpool 3. Fox’s Logan’s sacrifice will potentially make a huge impact on this Logan.

Deadpool & Wolverine is scheduled for a theatrical release on 26th July.
