Glen Powell starred alongside Sydney Sweeney in the sleeper hit romantic comedy film Anyone But You, and while it is considered a successful project and one of the films that revived the bygone genre, it did not truly bring out his acting prowess.

Powell did a couple of action films such as Top Gun: Maverick and Twisters, but he is also well-versed in comedies. In fact, he has appeared in the popular horror comedy series Scream Queens and it surprisingly brought out his funny side.

Glen Powell’s Scene With Nick Jonas And Emma Roberts Proves He’s A True Comedian

In this iconic scene from Scream Queens Season 1 Episode 2, actors Glen Powell and Nick Jonas played Chad Radwell and Boone Clemens, respectively. As the latter asked his friend if he could lay beside him because he was scared, Radwell agreed.

Emma Roberts’ Chanel Oberlin walked in and spotted the two men sleeping next to each other. After she berated him about the situation, Powell’s character told Chanel:

I’m sorry everybody wants to have s*x with me. Okay? I can’t help that. News flash, Chanel: I’m hot. Everybody wants to get with this. Women, men, animals in the zoo, plants, probably. And if you can’t handle that, then you’re just gonna have to go, ‘cause I am breaking up with you.

He proceeded to tell her the reasons why he’s ditching her: “Because you are a spoiled, homophobic little girl” who could not accept how hot Radwell is. The entire confrontation was hilarious and every line was uttered with so much conviction. Radwell and Clemens’ earlier conversation was pure laughter as well.

This scene alone proved that Powell has an edge in making comedic acts. He starred in many more comedies after Scream Queens, but none was as memorable as his stint in the Fox television series. In fact, fans could easily notice that studios are banking on his appearance rather than his true acting flair.

Take, for instance, his moments with Sydney Sweeney’s Beatrice in Anyone But You. It was labeled a rom-com film but there wasn’t any memorable scene that stood out or stuck with the audience’s minds. Both actors just effortlessly showed off their great bodies and strong on-screen chemistry.

Powell mentioned in his interview with Vogue Magazine that his performance in Scream Queens had the most impact on the audience.

The amount of people that come up to me about Scream Queens is shocking, probably more than anything else I’ve done. Maybe it ages like a fine wine.

It’s absolutely because his acting and comedic timing truly shone above his looks and appeal. It’s a shame that Anyone But You could have been an avenue for him to level up his talent in comedy, but he ended up becoming just another eye candy in the film.

It’s no wonder critics gave the 2023 film a mediocre 52% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes for its generic taste and appeal.

Anyone But You is available to watch on Netflix.
