Giancarlo Esposito has been in the film industry for the past half a century or more. While he more or less struggled to make ends meet initially, the actor is finally getting the recognition he so deserves. Having made a name for himself for his standout roles in series like Breaking Bad, The Boys, and The Mandalorian, the actor is now scheduled to make his Marvel debut.
Starring in an undisclosed Marvel role, he will be seen opposite Anthony Mackie and Harrison Ford in the upcoming Captain America: Brave New World. Yet, the actor isn’t blinded by his MCU debut and would love to star in a Gus Firing prequel, someday soon.
Giancarlo Esposito Wants to Return as Gus Firing Despite Marvel Fame
Being part of a franchise as popular as the MCU is certainly a huge deal for an actor like Giancarlo Esposito. Despite being in the industry for a long time, getting acclaim and work was not as easy for the actor as his industry counterparts. But here he is, slated to play a bad*ss character in the upcoming Captain America 4 (via Inside the Magic).
One of the most talented and versatile actors, it was Esposito’s calculating and ruthless Gus Firing in Breaking Bad that catapulted him to the limelight. Since then, up has been the only way for him. Yet, he hasn’t forgotten his roots in the gritty world of Albuquerque’s drug trade and wants to return to show more of Firing and his villainous origins.
In a recent interview with Discussing Film, the actor remarked,
I don’t have the power to greenlight a Gus Fring prequel, but I think that character deserves a little attention in that arena… I feel like I’ve always wanted to tell Gus Fring’s backstory because I think we all want to know more about his complicated nature and how he came to be.
Fans for ages have been clamoring to know more about Gus Firing’s backstory, and the calls only amplified after Esposito returned in Better Call Saul. Yet, the Breaking Bad star does not feel he is in the position to greenlight such a prequel and deems it crucial for Vince Gilligan to be part of such a project.
Breaking Bad Fans Want a Gus Firing Prequel as Well!
Breaking Bad is one of the best TV shows ever to have been made. Filled with incredibly complex and morally ambiguous characters, the series continues to captivate audiences with its intense storytelling and exceptional performances by the cast. And among the many memorable characters. Giancarlo Esposito’s Gus Firing is a fan-favorite.
After Esposito yet again expressed hope for a Gus Firing prequel, fans are eager for such a series to be greenlit and want Vince Gilligan to step up once again.
Anybody that says this shows a terrible idea is lying to themselves tbh

I think I speak for everyone when I say that a Gus Fring prequel series is something we all want.

I think a film like “El Camino” would work better given his age, but regardless I’d still watch it no matter what format it’s in

While the possibility of a Gus Firing prequel happening any time soon looks bleak, there is also the question of Giancarlo Esposito’s age. Since it is going to be a prequel series, it would be disastrous to cast Esposito due to his age, yet the prospect of a prequel focusing on his Breaking Bad character has been well-received by fans.
Whether it’s through a standalone series or a deeper dive into Gus Firing’s life, the demand for it is undeniable.
Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul can be streamed on Netflix.
