Players now have the potential to foster relationships with various characters. In a recent interview, Creative Director Rebecca Ford explained that she always wanted to add the system to the game but was hesitant about it. But after the release of Baldur’s Gate 3 and seeing its immense success, she finally found the courage and inspiration to bring that feature to the game.

The success of the romantic interaction between characters in the RPG was the push that Ford and her team needed. Ford admitted that seeing how players were deeply engaged and followed the story of the various companions, made her realize that people do like this kind of connection in games. Her exact words were:

I think two things really gave us the courage to proceed. Of course, the success of Baldur’s Gate and their romance system was like, ‘Okay, like, people do want this fantasy’. It does help, there’s no doubt, but we did have, I should say, ambitions of it, that fit the Warframe architecture, on and off.

The decision, even though very unique in multiplayer shooter games, has met with excitement and anticipation from the community. Players are excited that they will have more time to spend with beloved characters, as well as understand a new side of the game’s universe through meaningful interactions.
