There’s no doubt that Nintendo and LEGO share a special relationship that began with Mario. However, it was further expanded to the hit-title Animal Crossing, and soon, The Legend of Zelda.
However, the two companies aren’t done just yet! We’re soon going to see a new Mario set hitting the store, but it’s unlike anything we’ve seen before. This upcoming set features Mario steering Yoshi in Super Mario World in all of its pixelated glory! While it’s great to see we’re finally getting one of the most requested Mario sets, fans already know it’s going to be too expensive!
The New Super Mario LEGO Set Might Be Too Expensive
LEGO still hasn’t officially revealed the upcoming Super Mario World set. However, one of the stores that stock up these sets in Singapore accidentally added to its page a bit too early.
Even though the page was taken down quite quickly, Jay’s Brick Blog got the info, and images are now everywhere on the internet.
The upcoming set is one of the bigger ones, as it takes 1,215 pieces to complete the image of Super Mario World‘s Mario and Yoshi in brick form.
The set was priced at 2.09.99 SGD, which is roughly $157. While many in the community are itching to get their hands on this set, few believe it’s way too expensive for their liking.
For the price of this LEGO set, gamers state that they can go out and buy several different Mario games.
Gamers can’t understand why such a highly-requested set is being gatekept behind a massive paywall.
It’s definitely a cool set, but the price factor is going to push many franchise fans away from it.
Well, let’s be honest: LEGO sets are known for being expensive. These sets use high-quality materials to ensure the most excellent quality, which ends up driving their prices. When you add a gaming collaboration to the mix, the cost rises further due to the sheer demand and popularity.
It’s quite disappointing to see such a pheromonal set costing so much, but let’s hope both companies bring more affordable Mario gaming LEGO sets in the future, so a large portion of the fans don’t feel alienated.
The Super Mario LEGO Set Will Break Records
While the set’s function won’t be confirmed until we get an official reveal, the appearance of a crank at the set’s base means it can move in some capacity.
Even though we don’t know what the crank will do, we can take a guess based on the images. The set’s box showcases Yoshi with his mouth closed, whereas another image of the set shows him with his mouth wide open. So that is likely what the movement will be.
The set’s release date was listed as October 1, 2024. With an official release date and images prepared, it’s unlikely we’ll have to wait long for an official reveal from Nintendo.
It’s already been a huge week for toymakers with new Fortnite sets, a recreation of Shadow the Hedgehog’s head, and a lot more.
